I get my inspiration for colour combinations from nature

My trainer always said to me that nature never gets if wrong and she is so right. In this blog I will give you some ideas by looking at things in nature and transferring the colours into what you wear. I get my inspiration for colour combinations from nature. I get my inspiration for colour combinations from nature. We have all heard to saying, “Blue and green should never be seen unless there is a colour in between” This is so not true these days. Green with denim is a great combination because there are so many shades of green and blue to choose from. Navy and a bright green look great together and make a great combination for a wedding outfit. What is important is that you choose two warm colours or two cool colours which will tone with each other. Here I have found a lovely t/shirt in a green stripe which is shown here with a pair of denim jeans and as you can see it is a great combination. This is from next at £20 and would also look great with a pair of white or cream jeans or chinos. Use colourful jewellery & accessories Use colourful jewellery, and accessories when putting your outfits together. Coloured necklaces are a good choice. Scarves are usually full of bright colours and make a great addition to any outfit. Coloured shoes and handbags also help to make a well put together outfit. I get my inspiration for colour combinations from…

What does Chelmsford have to offer for some retail therapy?

So many of the shops I used to use have now closed in Chelmsford. I am not a lover of ordering online myself, as I am always so disappointed when they arrive. The colours are always different, and you can never tell much about the fabric online. I have a personal shopping client soon and wanted to have a good look around Chelmsford to what is available. Failing that it would be a trip to Lakeside. What does Chelmsford have to offer for some retail therapy? What does Chelmsford have to offer for some retail therapy? One shop that I always loved visiting when I went into London was Oliver Bonas and now, we have one in Bond Street Chelmsford. This store is like a small department store as it sells ladies clothes, jewellery accessories, and home wear. It is like a little treasure trove. Here is picture that I took this week and as you can see, I homed in on my favourite colours. You can purchase a whole outfit in here dress or separates, handbag jewellery, and even hair accessories. This is on my list of shops to visit. The advantage of having a store in town is you can return online orders to the store. Fat Face & White Stuff These are two shops I have not shopped in until recently when my usual stores disappeared. They offer a more casual daytime look so it depends on what type of outfit you are looking for. They both…

What not to discard from a wardrobe declutter

What not to discard from a wardrobe declutter What not to discard from a wardrobe declutter. There are certain items in your wardrobe that are worth keeping and you should not let go. Obviously, if  something does not fit anymore or is worn out, they must go. What often happens while you are decluttering it can be easy to let things go and then a few months later regret letting go of some pieces.  Some items never seem to go out of fashion and are worth keeping. Here are my tips on which pieces to hang onto when you declutter your wardrobe. Leather Biker or Denim Jacket. I cannot tell you how long I have had this denim jacket, in fact I also have one in a peach too. These can be worn in so many ways, casual over cotton trousers, over a printed summer dress, and over a skirt. I also have a leather navy biker jacket which I wear in the same way in the cooler weather. Classic Wool Coat or Trench Coat. I tend to keep my winter coats for many years and throw them away once they have worn out or I have replaced them. My classic beige mac I have also had for many years and although it is very old it still looks good and is very useful. These are key items that do not date and will always serve you well. Leather Shoes & Boots. If you invest in good quality leather footwear…

Are you returning to the office and need some workwear?

Are returning to the office to work after having spent the last two years working from home? If you are, your wardrobe might need some updating.  So many of us have been working from home and therefore had no need to dress for work. Perhaps you have been sitting at your computer in your track bottoms with no need for office wear. Returning to the office your wardrobe may need some updating. Are you returning to the office and need some workwear? Are you returning to the office and need some workwear? If you read last week’s blog about de-cluttering, you may know which key items you need to replace this season. It is not about buying a whole new wardrobe, but just injecting a few new key pieces to update what you already have. Here I have chosen a jacket Military Tailored Blazer from Lipsy. I have chosen a nice bright colour, but it does come in a choice of 11 of colours to suit all tastes. This I found on the Next website and retails at £67.00. Here it is styled with a pair of jeans. If you can wear jeans to work, choose a pair that are high waisted, tailored with a flare for a business feel. You could wear this blazer over a dress, or with a pair of trousers, a knee length skirt, or a long -pleated skirt.  On your feet for a more casual look wear a pair of trainers. For a smarter look…

Is Spring just around the corner?

Is Spring really just around the corner? I don’t know about you, but I am fed up with this weather. It is too cold wet and windy, and I cannot wait for the weather to break. We have been lucky and had a mild winter, but it must go now. Is Spring just around the corner? Looking at this picture I took this week I think we do not have too long to wait.  I want to get out of my thick jumpers into some spring clothes. How about you? Is Spring just around the corner? This time of year, as it starts to get warmer, and we start think about holidays and warmer times. I start to thinking about spring cleaning, and part of that process is also some decluttering. As you move the furniture around you find things lurking, magazines to re-cycle, papers to file and general tiding up. Looking out at the garden you can see all the shrubs that need cutting back, roses to prune and the lawn to cut. For me this is a great time of year as I know I have the whole of Spring and Summer to look forward too. It could be time to start thinking about de-cluttering your wardrobe. I am a great hoarder and find it difficult to let go of things, and yet I also love to buy new things.  The aim for me is to work on a one in, one out policy, but I still have…

Boost your mood by adding colour to your winter basics

Boost your mood by adding colour to your winter basics The shops are full of dark winter colours, and I must admit so many of the winter basics are in dark fabrics. There is no need however to wear top to bottom dark colours. Why, not boost your mood by adding colour to your winter basics. How can I boost my mood by wearing colour? Check out one of my previous blogs about the energies of colour and how it can make you feel here. Boost your mood by adding colour to your winter basics. How do you do that you may ask? It is simple, break up the dark colours with a pop of colour and this can be done in several ways.   Makeup. Lipstick – Yes how easy is that to add a nice bright lipstick in your favourite colour. For me that would be a bright orange or red, but for you it might be a pink. This will bring your face alive, and people will be drawn to look at your face. Accessories. Transforming your Summer wardrobe to Autumn

I have been quiet on here as I have just return from two weeks with my bestie in her apartment in Spain. We had a lovely break enjoyed some warm sunshine, nice walks, and great food. Is summer completely over now?  or will we have some warm sunny days like we have been enjoying this week. The news tells me that this is the first week of autumn. This blog is about transforming you summer wardrobe to autumn. The changing of the seasons. I love my summer wardrobe and are not ready to put it away yet. Summer makes me think of  warm weather, socialising outside and warm summer evenings. Longer days, light evenings inspire me to do more and make the most of the time. However, it is also nice to have the seasons and each season has its own good points. The best bit about the Autumn for me is how nature changes. The autumn leaves on the trees and the colours that shine through. I always take my inspiration for colour combinations from nature. If it works in nature it will work with your wardrobe. Transforming your Summer wardrobe to Autumn Transforming your summer wardrobe to Autumn So yes, we can still wear some of our summer clothes in the autumn, but we just wear them a different way. Take your favourite summer dress that you have been wearing with bare legs and sandals or trainers. For now, you could wear either a camisole underneath or a…

Are you ever too old to wear denim?

Are you ever too old to wear denim? Are you ever too old to wear denim? No, I don’t think so. It is all about dressing with your style in mind. I was in my local John Lewis and their manikins were dressed in denim. Personally, I would not wear denim dungarees as they are not my thing. I think they are more suited for  a younger women. (I am (63yrs) but some ladies I know could rock it. Styled with some white trainers and a t/shirt underneath. The denim shorts for me would depend on how you thought about wearing them. I have good legs and have a couple pairs of denim shorts and wear them a lot. In the first lockdown we did so much walking and the weather was so nice and so I did not wear anything else. If you do not want to show too much leg? how about choosing knee length ones? Pedal pushers which finish just over the knee, 7/8th trousers and then of course jeans, which there are many shapes to choose from. Are you ever too old to wear denim? Are you ever too old to wear denim? In this picture we have a long-sleeved denim dress with tiers which are on trend now. Denim can be a thick material so with this one you could be adding a lot of bulk with all the gathers unless it is a fine material. I think that anyone can wear a denim dress…
