Have we finally turned the corner and left the cold weather behind I hope so? I am looking forward to getting my spring clothes out and wearing less layers. Read on to find out my new spring offer.

Step into spring with my April offer

Spring is a time when I put away all my heavy winter items and bring out my lightweight jumpers, long sleeved tops, and my mid-season items. When I buy something new, I let go of something I am not wearing.

This may find you in a position where you have some gaps in your wardrobe. Do you need any help in deciding what to buy going forward? For me the colour is the most important thing as if you get the colour wrong you really can look unwell, tired, and stressed. BUT get it right you will have.

  • Healthier more youthful glow

  • No definition to your face shape
  • Slim body lines
  • Lively look to the face brightening your eyes.
  • Glowing skin

Do you always buy the same colour you always have?

Do you always buy the same colour you always have?
Do you always buy the same colour you always have?

Do you always buy the same colour you always have? Just think about this question. You go into a large store and there is a table of jumpers in lots of different colours, are you always drawn to the same colour?

Do you always buy the same colour you always have?

We are a creature of habit, and we tend to buy the same things from the same shops. We do it without thinking about it. Have you ever got home after having treated yourself to a new jumper or top only to find you have one very similar in your wardrobe already? I have must stop myself sometimes when looking to buy something new, I ask myself these questions. Do I need it, and do I have something similar already. Many of my clients prefer to wear black and that is their go to colour as they think it is slimming. Encouraging them to choose colour is not always easy until they can see the difference wearing colour makes.

Why are we drawn to the same colour?

I have fallen victim to this repeatedly. It started with the colour Red and every top I bought was red. I knew which red to buy that suited my skin tone. Every time I wore it, I got compliments, so it was a no brainer. I then transitioned to Orange. Both are vibrant colours that gave me the energy I needed to show up. BUT as a colour consultant should I not be showing that I know my craft and can wear lots of different colours.

I wear all my Spring colours with pride

I wear the full range of Spring colours and I also pinch some of the Autumn ones too and I still get the compliments. At a wedding last month I wore a dress in a moss green which I felt lovely in and got lots of compliments. Wearing the lovely green also go me lots of compliments too. Each day I chose the colours I wear according to how I want to feel and what I am doing. The bright colours when I need the energy and the muted colours for when I need to rest.

How do you break the mould?

We all have our favourite colours, and I am not saying that you cannot continue to wear them. BUT what I am suggesting is you try to wear other too. If you know what season you are and which colours work best for you, try adding those colours to your wardrobe. If not, why not invest in yourself this year and book a Colour Consultation to find our which colours work best for you. Take a look at my website and see what a colour consultation with me involves.

As you mature your style changes

If you read last week’s blog about finding your own style, I talk about how your style changes over the years. You may be drawn to different colours and want to turn down the dimmer switch and wear more muted colours. It is so important to know which colours will work with your skin tone.

After covid-19 so many of the high street stores closed and some of my favourite stores are now only online. I am not a great online shopper as the colours are not always shown as they are in the flesh.

To sum up

Do not be shy about wearing colour and choosing different colours that you do not normally wear. Keep in your colour pallet. If you have a warm skin tone stay with the warm colour and if you have a cool skin tone stay with the cool colours. Have fun with it, try different colour combinations and enjoy the benefits that colour offers. If you need any help with finding your own colour do get in touch.

My Colour Journey

My colour journey
My colour journey

I first had my colours done many years ago. My husband bought me a gift voucher one Christmas, to have my colours done. It was not something I would have bought myself. My daughter was young at the time and spending quality time on me was not my priority. I share with you how I went from wearing cream and beige, so I did not stand out, to wearing red and orange and a new confident me.

My first introduction to colour

He bought me a colour and style analysis which also included a make-up lesson. with a Colour me Beautiful Consultant. This really was a treat. as I had not invested in myself like this before. Then I didn’t realise how powerful it was.

At the time I was unaware of how powerful colour was.  I had worked in the city for many years and had two skirt suits one black and the other grey was an assortment of blouses I wore underneath. These were conservative as I was working in banking recruitment.  Wearing all grey made me feel grey and at the time I did not know why and now I do.

I went from wearing cream & beige to wearing red & orange

At this time in my life, I was very shy and was wearing quite muted colours like cream and beige as I didn’t want to stand out. My colour analysis said I was an autumn which fitted in with the base colours, I was wearing but it showed me I could add some colour to bring my face alive. It taught me I could add colour to my beige trousers, and I started to wear warm apricot, soft greens, watered down red. This was the start of my colour journey.

I learnt how to dress your body shape

The style session taught me not to follow fashion to the letter but to choose styles that worked with my body shape. I have a straight up and down figure with no definition of a waist, so I needed a o choose a jacket that would give the illusion of a waist. It made shopping so much easier because I knew what to look for. Long boxy jackets would do me no favours.

Choosing the right makeup colours

This session included finding the right coloured foundation which is so important as you don’t want to look made up but sometimes you might want to hide some blemishes. A warm skin tone should choose a peachy blusher and a cool skin tone a pink based one. Eye shadows and lipsticks also work in the same way as the colours you choose to wear.

So, what did these sessions do for me?

I learnt which colours worked for me and which didn’t. It made shopping so much easier as I now knew which colours to choose. It taught me how to mix and match all my clothes to make more outfits with less items. Also, I learnt different colour combinations and now get my inspiration from nature. If the colour combination works in nature it will work for you.

Many years later…..

When my daughter went off to university I decided to train as a stylist as it was something I had always wanted to do. Firstly, I trained in Colour and Style Analysis and a couple of years later in Wardrobe Audit and Personal Shopping. For me the biggest transformation is always the colour because that really does make you look and feel different.

Colour Therapy

After I had been working with colour for a while, I decided to investigate about colour therapy as I knew I felt different wearing different colours. This broadened my knowledge of colour enormously and is something that I talk about all the time. Have a look at my blogs about colour therapy check out this one on how to colour yourself happy. Click here

Can you change your season?

This is a question I get asked a lot. If you have been analysed with a warm skin tone, you will always be warm and the same goes with if you are a cool you will always be cool. Firstly, I was analysed as a warm autumn but when I had my training, this time I came out a warm spring. It is like turning up the dimmer switch of colour as the spring colours are brighter than the more muted autumn colours. Both seasons are warm with a yellow undertone so if you are in either season you can pinch some colours from the other season.

For me I think that I had come out of my shell and had the confidence to wear the brighter colours. I was no longer looking to fade into the background and wear the neutral colours I was happy to be noticed for who I was, stepping into the next version of me.

As you grow older does your skin fade?

Yes, it can do, I have had clients that for arguments sake were a winter when they were younger but as they grow older didn’t feel comfortable wearing that level of colour in their 60’s. So chose to wear the softer shades of the summer pallet. Summer and Winter both being the cool pallet with the blue undertone. Winter being the bright jewel colours and summer the softer muted shades.

Should I change my colours if I choose to let my hair go grey?

No, one mistake many ladies make when they go grey is to wear grey. This will drain all the colour from your face. Still keep wearing the colours that work with your skin tone but if you want to turn the dimmer switch of colour down you can do so.

Conclusion

My colour journey has me move away from a shrinking wallflower who wanted to blend into a confident lady who loves to embrace colour. I have learnt so much about colour and its benefits along my colour journey and I love sharing my knowledge. If you are ready to start your colour journey do get in touch. Check out my website for details of what a colour analysis with me involves. Perhaps you partner does not know what to buy you this Christmas like my husband did many years ago. When you look in the mirror do you look tired?

We all live very busy lives and many of us are on the go all the time and our faces we show any stress straight away. When you look in the mirror do you look tired. What can we do about? Here are a few tips on how not to look tired and stressed.

When you look in the mirror do you look tired?

It could be the colours that you are wearing. A lot of ladies that I meet love to wear black as they think it is slimming but it can be very harsh when it is worn close to your face. It can bring out the lines in your face and drain any colour. In fact, there is only one season that I would say can get away with it and that would be winter. But, even then for the mature lady, I would say it is best to keep black away from the face. Black also is a negative colour and will drain any energy that you have, which will also make you feel tried.

Knowing the right colours for you

It is important to find the right colours that will work with your skin tone.

If you wear the wrong colours

  • It can make your tired and drawn
  • lose any colour in your face
  • make your lines more prominent

Wearing the right colours

  • A healthier more youthful glow without too much need for makeup
  • More definition to face shape and slim body lines
  • Brightening your eyes and giving your skin a glowing appearance
  • An inner confidence knowing that you look and feel your best version of you.
When you look in the mirror do you look tired?
When you look in the mirror do you look tired?
When you look in the mirror do you look tired?
When you look in the mirror do you look tired?

On the left we have a cool green which has a blue undertone, and which has drained my face of all colour. I have lost my top lip line, and my cheeks have dropped. In fact, I would say that this is not a good colour for me. The picture on the right is a warm green with a yellow undertone. This has brought the colour back to my face, lifted my cheeks, my eyes are brighter, and this warm green is working with my skin tone.

When you look in the mirror do you look tired?

So now we have identified the first thing to think about is wearing the correct colours uniquely for you, this will not only make you look fantastic, but you will feel fantastic too. If you would like more details on what a colour consultation with me will involve you can visit my website for full details. Alternatively, give me a call for a chat and see how I can help you.

All colours have an energy

This is also very important  because if you are wearing colours with a low vibration like black it will deplete your energy. However, if you wear a red or orange it will have the opposite effect and will give you that much needed energy. Colour therapy is another subject all on its own. Why not colour yourself happy and choose colours to make you feel good.

Makeup plays a big part too.

You can use the same rules when choosing makeup colours. If you have a cool skin tone choose a pink blusher and a warm skin tone a peach. Use the same makeup colours as the ones shown to you in your colour consultation. There is so much choice out there, I would suggest if you were unsure, go to a good makeup counter and get some advice.

Use your personality and style

Have you heard the saying you can choose to be happy? I often ponder on this one, but it helps to have a positive outlook. I choose the colour I wear by how I am feeling. If I need some energy, I will choose a bright red or orange. If I feel like I need a hug, I will wear green or pink from the heart chakra and yellow the colour of the sun always makes me feel happy. Choose a colour that will make you feel happy. It may just be your favourite lipstick, scarf, necklace, or your favourite shoes.

When you look in the mirror do you look tired?

Of course, it goes without saying that you also need to look after yourself with a good healthy diet, plenty of sleep and a good work life balance. It is important to schedule in some “Me Time” in the day even if it is only 10-15 minutes. That little break can make all the difference and you come back to your desk with renew energy.

To conclude

Colour yourself happy, be mindful of the colours you choose to wear. If you have not had a colour consultation before think about making that investment in yourself. I do have gift vouchers, so perhaps if could be a present from your family. If you would like a chat to see how I can help you do get in touch, I would love to hear from you.

Are you ageing yourself by what you are wearing?

Are you ageing yourself by what you are wearing?
Are you ageing yourself by what you are wearing?

This is an interesting thought. We have all heard of the saying “you don’t want to look mutton dressed as lamb.” Is it a fine line between dressing for your age and wearing clothes that make you look older than you are. This is something we do not want to do. Here are my thoughts on the subject.

Are you ageing yourself by what you are wearing?

We are all going to age, and there is nothing we can do about that, but we can choose to dress to make ourselves look more youthful rather than frumpy. If I think about my grandparents, they always looked the same from a little girl and dressed like old ladies. We don’t have to do that now.

Choose colours that suit you and your unique skin tone.

It is important to wear colour to bring your face alive. So many ladies choose to wear black, or very neutral tones which can make you look washed out. Also, they can drain any colour in your skin which can make you look unwell and older especially if worn close to your face.

If you want to wear black keep it away from your face and wear your pop of colour near your face. You could also wear some brighter makeup to counter the aging effect.

Avoid oversized flowing clothes

We all love to wear comfortable loose-fitting clothes when we are relaxing at home but don’t be shy to show your lovely figure. Some ladies like to hide under flowing tunics baggy cardigans, loose trousers, or shapeless skirts. If you also put comfortable shoes too you will give the impression of an older frumpy vibe.

If you want to wear oversized, do so only on one half of your body. For example, you could choose a loose-fitting top over some fitted trousers so your body shape is not totally hidden. Or you could choose a fitted top over a loose-fitting skirt.

Take care choosing the right underwear.

Your underwear is so important as it is the foundation in which you add your clothes and so it is imperative to get it right. Otherwise, your clothes will not sit right on your body. I would advise everyone to have a regular bra fitting to make sure you have the correct bra size. What you want to avoid is a low sagging bust as this is so ageing. When I took my mum for a bra fitting, I was told that she needed a full cup bra for the mature lady and would recommend that for the support it offers. What you do not want to do is create bulges on your back.

In am not a fan of the knickers that claim to suck in all the fat and give you a flat tummy as the fat must go somewhere. If you are wearing a figure-hugging dress make sure you wear a full pant to avoid any (VPL) visual panty line.

Add colour to your look

If you do not want to wear colour, try adding it to your makeup and accessories but wearing colour near the face. A statement-coloured neck lace or scarf can have the same effect.

Do not be afraid to show your personality.

Get some inspiration from your style icons, do not be afraid to experiment with colour, styles, and fashion. You can be who you want to be. Do not hide in black or beige neutral colours and shapeless clothes. Learn how to dress your body shape. You can download my book “How to dress your body shape and become the best version of you” for £4.99. from my website. If you need any help with, finding your true colour do get in touch, I would love to hear from you.

Conclusion

It is not about denying your age or trying to look like your daughter. The goal here is it to look youthful, making the most of figure, choosing clothes that flatter your body shape. Adding a a pop of colour particularly near your face to bring your face alive. If you need any help of advice on colour or style do get in touch. My tips on what to wear to keep cool in the heatwave

My tips on what to wear to keep cool in the heatwave
My tips on what to wear to keep cool in the heatwave

With temperature’s rising and set to stay hot, we need to be mindful of what we choose to wear to keep cool. We all know we need to stay hydrated and drink lots of water. If you are thirsty then you are already in need of water, what you need to do is drink before that happens. Have a water bottle on your desk and sip throughout the day. Here are my tips on what to wear to keep cool in the heatwave.

My tips on what to wear to keep cool in the heatwave

Material

It helps to wear natural fabrics like cotton and linen as they are more able to breath and avoid anything with nylon which will make you hot.

Underwear

We all want to feel comfortable so do take care when choosing underwear to wear in the hot weather. For me it has to be cotton all the way. I often suggest that you go up a size in knickers as there is nothing worse if they are too tight and cutting into flesh. Go for a regular bra fitting as it is so important to make a great undercoat for your clothes. In this heat I go for the bras that are not underwired for a more natural look and these are often in a cotton fabric.

Colours

Colours are so important, white will reflect the light whereas black will absorb it. Therefore, there are so many lighter coloured fabrics in the summer and in the winter, we wear the darker colours as they retain the heat. This reminds me of a story when I was in Portugal, and I had a Portuguese boyfriend.  We were going out one afternoon and I was wearing a black top (this was before I knew what I know now) He said to me what are you looking to do cook yourself? After I started my colour journey, I know how true that is.

Style

Dresses are my favourite in the very hot weather as I find things around the waist uncomfortable. I love the shift dresses in M&S or Next, they bring out new colours every year because they are so popular. Choose a dress that hangs from the shoulders or bust line as they will be cooler to wear.

If trousers are your thing, a loose-fitting linen or cotton trouser and wear your t/shirt or blouse outside. Whilst working at home I have been wearing one of my sarongs with a bra top and it has been lovely and cool. If you are sitting in the car or travelling anywhere a maxi dress or a long cotton skirt is good as it stops your legs sticking together.

To summarise

Choose a material that is not going to be too hot, in a light colour that will reflect the heat. Loose fitting clothes that will not restrict your movement and allow the fabrics to breath. Clip your hair off you neck if you can. If you are going outside in the heat, make sure you have a good sunscreen on.  A pair of good quality sunglasses to protect your eyes and a hat. Yes, I hate wearing a hat as I can never get one to fit that stays on, but it is a must when it is very hot.

My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour
My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

Use colour to enhance your mood and colour yourself happy. Colour brings out the best in you and makes you look and feel fabulous. Therefore, so many of my clients choose to have a Colour Analysis Session. This is an investment in you, but who does not want to look and feel fabulous.?  If you are interested in finding out what a colour session involves do check out my website or give me a call. Wearing colour can change the way you feel, some colours will deplete your energy whilst others will give you energy. Here are my tips on how to enhance your mood using colour.

Understand the benefits of wearing colour

After a trained as a Colour and Style Coach and the more that I understood about colour the more I wanted to know the true benefits of wearing colour. I decided to do a Colour Therapy Training to understand the reasons why some colours were energy giving and others were not.  Previously, I worked in the London for many years and I had two skirt suits one black and the other grey. I used to have several blouses in neutral colours to wear underneath. I never knew at the time why I always felt grey wearing those colours. Now I do

Do you wear black?

I know that many ladies like to wear black as they think that it is slimming and yes, it is, but there are so many other colours that will do the same. Black is a very negative colour and can deplete your energy. It is also a colour of authority and can make others wary of approaching you. If you must wear a black suit for work, I suggest that you wear some colourful underwear and accessorise with some colour in some jewellery or a scarf.

Colours to wear to feel calm.

Think of doctors and hospitals they are always painted in a soothing pale green or blue for a reason. This is to keep patients calm before an appointment. If you are going on a long hall flight and want to be able to sleep part of the way you need to wear light calming colours. If you choose to wear a bright red track suit you will not be able to rest and get any sleep.

Colour yourself happy.

Yes, you really can do that, wearing colour can make you feel better. Wake up in the morning and you are feeling blue choose a nice colourful colour preferably one that is high in energy. Bright red and orange are particularly high energy colours but for some people will be too bright for them to wear. If you turn down the colour, say from orange to peach, or red to pink that will be enough for some. You don’t only have to wear the colour on top. You can wear it in your underwear, or socks in your boots if you feel you need that energy. If you have high blood pressure bright red is probably not the best colour for you.

My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

Some people are more aware of the energies around them. My trainer told me a story about a disabled client who she took personal shopping. This lady was partially sighted and was in a wheelchair.

She gave this client lots of different coloured tops to try on and she came out of the fitting room and said she would take the lot. She said that her carer only buys her black and now she has experienced how wearing colour makes her feel, she never wants to wear black again. How powerful is that she felt different wearing the different colours.

Look for different colour combinations

When I am looking for inspiration for colour combinations I think of nature.  Look at the colours in your garden as an example. See the different colour combinations and think to yourself would I put those colours together. Think of blue and green should never be seen, I love blue and green together and nature shows us that they can be worn together. Another colour combination I had not thought of before I trained was green and pink. Try it, they look fabulous as a colour combination. Have a play and see how many different colours combinations you can come up with in your wardrobe.

Find the right colours for you.

Have you ever thought of having a colour consultation? Finding out the right colours for you can be life changing as it was for one lady who came up to me at an event.

Here is an example of what a colour session can do.

Jane was working in a corporate company and kept getting overlooked for promotion.  After a colour consultation it all changed. Jane went from wearing a boring black suit to work every day to finding her own sense of style, wearing colour. Blending in was a thing of the past and she started to get noticed. One promotion after the other which she put down to the confidence she had gained from wearing the right colours

My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

Wearing colour really can improve your mood. Give it a try and let me know how you get on. It is fun to have a play and try with what you have in your wardrobe. Look for different colour combinations that you have not tried before. Please do post your comments as I would love to hear about different colour combinations that you tried.

What should you wear to face to face networking

What should you wear to face to face networking
What should you wear to face to face networking

Have you returned to face -to- face networking? I have, but then I never did enjoy networking online. As I am my own shop window, I much prefer to work face to face. For some people attending a live event brings another problem what to wear. We are always being told that people will make an opinion of you in the first 60 seconds of meeting you, before you have even spoken. So how do we do that? Read on to find our what you should wear to a networking event.

What should you wear to face to face networking?

As a Colour & Style Coach I feel the pressure more than anybody as no one would expect me to get it wrong. So yes, it is important to make the right choices. People will remember you for what you wear, so by wearing the right colours and the right style go a long way to achieving the perfect look. Here are my tips on what to wear for a face-to-face networking event.

Is a suit the way to go?

When I started networking many years ago it was a ladies networking group and I would say that 75% of the ladies were either wearing suits, or jackets with a skirt or trousers. One thing I noticed was that out of those ladies only a handful were comfortable in what they were wearing, and it showed. You can look smart without wearing a suit.

Dress to suit your personality

People buy people, so it is important to get your personality across and you can do that by how you put your outfits together. If you are wearing a plain dress add some jewellery, or a scarf and team it up with a colour shrug or cardigan. Avoid wearing all black as this can make you unapproachable. Black is also a very negative colour and will deplete you of energy. Wear another dark colour on areas you do not want to highlight. Make sure you wear smart shoes and carry a nice handbag, don’t spoil an outfit with poor accessories. It also goes without saying that you should have clean hair, nice makeup, no chipped nails, holes in your tights or dirty shoes.

Choose something you feel comfortable in

The point is you must feel comfortable, if the service you are offering is in a relaxed environment, then you can dress that way. Most people are nervous enough going to networking events so make the experience easy for yourself. Choose something that you love and love wearing. We all have things in our wardrobes that we know we are going to get some great comments when we wear them.

  • A smart dress
  • Smart trousers with a nice top
  • Skirt and top

I have seen ladies in a jumpsuit, culottes whatever you feel good in and you love wearing for me is the key. Just bear in mind this is a business event so beware of flashing too much flesh.

Should I wear my uniform?

I would say yes if you had a uniform that is a great way to promote your business. Many therapists wear their uniform and companies that wear polo shirt with logos on. After all you are there to promote your business and people will remember you for what you are wearing so a great idea.

What should you wear to face to face networking?

So, to sum up then. Choose something you know that you look good in and you feel comfortable in too, as this will give you confidence. Get out your outfit the night before and hang with all the accessories you plan to wear with it. Make sure you pack your bag for the next day before you go to bed to save time in the morning. You don’t want to leave those important business cards at home.

Turn up in plenty of time, as there is always free networking before the start. The most important thing of all is to wear a smile. This makes you very approachable, everyone loves a friendly face, so you will be the one everyone wants to talk too.

We have all heard about the law of attraction, if you are looking confident and are passionate about what you do it will show in your face, your eyes will light up. Couple this with a positive attitude and you will attract back to you what you are putting out. Have some fun with it, but if you need any advice do not hesitate to get in contact.

How to update your look in a few easy steps.

Are you in style rut and need to update your look? Read on for some ideas on how to update your look in a few easy steps. Sometimes and can the easiest of things that can transform an outfit.

How to update your look in a few easy steps.

Makeup

We all live busy lives and so many ladies I see now have what I call a wash and go look. Which I am not saying is not good but think what I difference it would make to you face is you wore a brighter lipstick. A good lipstick will brighten the whole face. Personally, I do not like the fake tan look, but a light tinted moisturiser works well particularly in the summer and a hint of blusher. I wouldn’t go out without my mascara but don’t bother with eye shadow unless I am going out out!!

Hair

Your hair is the most important, as it is the outfit you wear every day. A good hair cut (and colour if you need too) makes all the difference. Next you need to wear you best smile as this will attract people to come and talk to you. So, with your hair looking nice and good makeup you are ready to apply the clothes.

Add a pop of colour

Wherever you put the colour in your outfit is where you will draw the eye. If you are concerned about your tummy area, put the colour elsewhere and wear your dark colours in that area. Normally, I would put the colour in my top (blouse, top or t/shirt) The colour then will bounce up onto your face.

Colour combinations

Look for different colour combinations. Instead of going for the trustee navy and white, wear a colour with the navy like pink, red, orange, mid blue, the list goes on. If you can see the colour combination in nature you know that it works.

Scarves & Jewellery

These are a great way of adding colour to your outfit. A small scarf in the summer or a coloured necklace will make an outfit.

Update your glasses

Who says glasses must be plain and boring? There are some lovely frames out there at affordable prices (you don’t have to have designer frames). If you don’t wear normal glasses, you may have readers and they really can be bright and funky. When I worked at Wallis I got known as the lady with the red glasses. Customers came in asking for me, so that was what i was known for.

Add some movement and texture to your clothes.

I do like fitted clothes, but I also like to feel comfortable in what I wear. Try wear skirts that have a swishing effect, they will skim your hips and add movement to your outfit. It is also nice to choose textured fabrics to add to your style.

Are you returning to the office and need some workwear?

Are returning to the office to work after having spent the last two years working from home? If you are, your wardrobe might need some updating.  So many of us have been working from home and therefore had no need to dress for work. Perhaps you have been sitting at your computer in your track bottoms with no need for office wear. Returning to the office your wardrobe may need some updating.

If you read last week’s blog about de-cluttering, you may know which key items you need to replace this season. It is not about buying a whole new wardrobe, but just injecting a few new key pieces to update what you already have. Here I have chosen a jacket Military Tailored Blazer from Lipsy. I have chosen a nice bright colour, but it does come in a choice of 11 of colours to suit all tastes. This I found on the Next website and retails at £67.00.

Here it is styled with a pair of jeans. If you can wear jeans to work, choose a pair that are high waisted, tailored with a flare for a business feel. You could wear this blazer over a dress, or with a pair of trousers, a knee length skirt, or a long -pleated skirt.  On your feet for a more casual look wear a pair of trainers. For a smarter look a pair or court shoes or boots.

Underneath you could wear a lightweight jumper or roll neck, a blouse, long-sleeved t/shirt or top. In the summer you could also wear this blazer over a pair of tailored shorts. This blazer can be worn so many ways and if you work out price per wear you can afford to invest in a good one. A blazer always makes your outfit look smarter and more business -like.

Have you ever considered a trouser suit?

I remember wearing a trouser suit many years ago and now they are back on trend. They are also very versatile and can be worn so many ways. This one here is from boohoo at Debenhams and this not a brand I have brought before so I cannot comment on the quality but you get the idea. This stretch fitted blazer and flared trouser suit. It states that the suit is in a Jersey stretch material which will make it comfortable to work in. It also comes in Black and Red and retails at £45.00 but currently a writing this blog has 20% off and is now £36.00.

Both items can be worn separately making lots of different outfits and looks. Have fun with it and style with different jewellery, footwear, and accessories. NOW I am the colour lady so the pieces I have chosen maybe too bright for you so, choose a more neutral colour and add the colour in your pieces you put with it.

After you have had a look at what you do have in your wardrobe and let go what you no longer need, you can see the gaps and what you need to replace. It maybe you just need to invest in some new trousers and a few new tops to update your look.

I am a great fan of the dress.

Dresses can be very versatile as well. For a start there is only one piece to put on which makes putting an outfit together so much easier. Floral designs are very much on trend and going into the spring there are a lot of spotted prints. Wear your dress alone but perhaps choose a nice belt if the dress needs one. To go to work in your dress add a leather bomber jacket or denim when the weather gets warmer. This will give it a stylish look. If your office is not very warm you could add one of your favourite jumpers over the top. Cardigans are one of my favourites so you can always add one to your dress for that extra bit of warmth. It is all about wearing all the clothes in your wardrobe and styling them in different ways.

The key is to not have too many clothes in your wardrobe. Remove anything that you are not wearing so you can see what you do have. This way getting dressed each day will not be so stressful. Play around with what you have and find as many ways as you can to wear your favourite outfit.

Here is what one of my clients said after a style consultation.

“Wow, thank you so much.  You went into way more detail than I expected, and your suggestions were so helpful. Definitely a worthwhile experience and I should now find shopping for clothes even easier because not only can I ignore all the colours that don’t suit me, but I also now understand more about which styles suit best and I can home in on the right ones.  Brilliant! “
