Do you feel you have to dress age appropriate?

Do you feel you have to dress age appropriate? Do you feel you have to dress age appropriate? Well, what is that exactly? My grandma always looked the same for as long as I remember, and my mum had me at age 21yrs so she was not always old. She had white hair, wore twin sets and pearls, midi length skirts and elasticated trousers.  I can think back to school age when she was still quite a young woman wearing the same. You are never too old to look good. Do you sometimes feel you cannot be bothered?  Just grab any old thing out of the wardrobe. It could be the jumper you wore yesterday that is still hanging on the chair and an old pair of jeans. No-one is coming to the house today, so it does not matter. BUT what about dressing for you? Yes, I do have days when I feel like that, but I choose to wear something uplifting, particularly if I am feeling down. I have a passion for colour because of the way it makes you look and feel. Sometimes, life gets in the way and the last thing you want to do is put on a full makeup and choose an outfit to dress to impress. But most of the time I do make the effort to put an outfit together but I do not usually wear a full make up. I am a wash n go sort of girl. To me the…

New Year – New You

New Year – New You Firstly, Happy New Year to you. Let’s make 2024 the year you step into the new version of you by injecting some style adding key pieces to your wardrobe. Sound exciting?  Yes, our style evolves over time, think about it, you are not wearing what you wore in your twenties when you are in your fifties or sixties. Your life changes though the years, you may have been in corporate and now own your own business, or perhaps you are retired and have a totally different lifestyle. Your style should reflect who you are as a person now. So how do you know what your style is? It all starts with style personality and the type of clothes that you like to wear. Are you a sporty type and like to be able to move in your clothes or are you more of a classic dresser. Do you like to wear sheer fabrics, reveal a lot of flesh or do you choose fitted close fitting clothes? Do you know how to dress your body shape? When I had my colours and style done many years ago, I was amazed in the difference dressing for your own body shape made. It also made shopping so much easier. I have a column figure and no definition of a waist; therefore, a boxy long line jacket would not suit, in fact I would look lost. However, a fitted jacket gives an illusion of a waist and if you…

Faux leather fashion always seems to be on trend.

Faux leather fashion always seems to be on trend. Faux leather always seems to be on trend and now the shops are full of it. I have two skirts which I have had years one black and the other chocolate brown. You can dress them up with a nice silk blouse or wear them more casual with a chunky jumper. Faux leather fashion always seems to be on trend. I have just bought myself a pair of faux leather trousers, which took buying several pairs to find the right ones. Denim jeans are not my thing, but I have several pairs which I wear at home or out and about with the dog. These faux leather trousers are jean styled with a straight leg. Be careful when ordering as I found many of them are ankle grazers which I can’t stand. Having long legs, they always look like they have had a row with my shoes. The standard leg in River Island is apparently 31″ which I can just get away with wearing flat boots or trainers. These come from River Island not a shop I usually shop in. They come in Black, Brown, and dark green. There are lots of different styles out there. I found some are like a jogging bottom, wide leg, the wide leg finishing on the calf, slim leg, and jeggings. The choice is yours for your body shape and style. In my mind you are never too old to wear this trend. I chose…

How to find your own sense of style

How to find your own sense of style How many times have I heard “I have lots of clothes in my wardrobe, but I never have anything to wear”. This is a common complaint by many women as they buy something random because they like it but don’t but don’t anything in their wardrobe to wear with it.  Here are some ideas on how to find your own sense of style, using the clothes in your wardrobe. Wearing them in a different way to find your own sense of style. How to find your own sense of style It’s all about finding your own unique style which will develop over the years.  So how do you do that?  Social media and magazines are a good place to start. Look and see how outfits are put together, see how the clothes are styled in the shops and on the manikins. I like to people watch, wherever you are and see how other ladies put outfits together. Choose someone you admire who has a similar body shape to you and watch how they put their outfits together. It can be a good idea to look back at photos of yourself and see if you like a certain look. Fashions do change and so will your own style over the years. Try styling something a different way. Go to your wardrobe and pull out one of your favourite things, it may be a pair of trousers or jeans for argument’s sake.  Perhaps you…

When you are not looking to buy anything and find a gem.

When you are not looking to buy anything and find a gem.

When you are not looking to buy anything and find a gem. When you are not looking to buy anything that is usually when you do see something you like. This happened to me recently, Bob and I often walk into town with our dog Rosie and stop for coffee before walking home again. Last week I just popped into John Lewis to go to the toilet before walking back and guess what? At the top of the escalators was a sale rail of dresses. This one was screaming at me, so a quick call to Bob to let him know I was trying it on. When you are not looking to buy anything and find a gem. When you are not looking to buy anything and find a gem. These are my favourite colours, and it is so nice to be able to find a dress that is this length. I also have a problem with dresses with a waist as I am long waisted, so this works perfectly. I love button through dresses and particularly this “A” line style as it suits my column figure. Yes, it is a bit shorted than I usually wear but as a holiday dress I think I can get away with it. August/September is a difficult time to shop. This is not the best time to shop as the sales are on the way out, and the winter stock is coming in. I still want to stay in summer clothes for as…

Does your posture alter the look of your outfit?

My tips on how to work the sales

Does your posture alter the look of your clothes? Yes, it most certainly does, you hear so much these days about getting your body into alignment, and it certainly makes a difference. Not only to how you look but how your clothes look too. I go to a regular yoga class and each week we work on a different part of the body. This week we were working on our shoulders and so many of us are round shouldered due to sitting at a desk on our computers or mobile phones. Does your posture alter the look of your outfit? Does your posture alter the look of your outfit? Standing up to your full height can make a huge difference. As I am tall, growing up I didn’t want to tower over my friends and so I was inclined to stoop to make myself not look so tall. I was bullied for being tall and thin so thought it was not good to be that way. I wanted to be small and petite but I think that was because I wanted to blend in and not stand out. Fast forward till now, I am proud of my height, I love my long legs even though it is a problem ordering trousers to ensure they are long enough. It is important to stand tall. I love giraffes as many of you know and look how graceful they are standing full height. This photograph was taken last November at my niece’s wedding…
