I have a passion for colour, and this is why

I have a passion for colour and this is why
I have a passion for colour and this is why

Colour is very important to me because of the way it makes me look and feel. Sharing this knowledge is one of my passions and showing other ladies how to embrace colour is very rewarding. Seeing the realisation of ladies faces when I show them the difference of wearing different colours. Also, the way to put different colours together in many combinations. Ever wanted to find out what your colours are? If you do please do get in touch or visit my website for full details what a Colour Analysis Session involves. Read on to find our why I have a passion for colour.

Colour Therapy.

I am a Colour & Style coach and have had the training to do that. I am also trained in Colour Therapy and understand the healing properties that colour has, and I combine the two when I am with my clients.

We are made up of energy. When you go through life’s challenges your energy system may become depleted of its optimum balance. You can work with colour to replenish what is needed and bring your body back to balance.

The Psychological Effects of Colour.

Have you ever thought why hospitals are always painted a pale blue or green?  It has been proven that those colours help the patients relax more. When people are waiting to go on air on the TV they are waiting in the “Green Room” That is also because the green is a relaxing colour.  Each colour has its own healing qualities and can be used alongside traditional treatments in aiding recovery.

  • Red is a vibrant colour that can give you energy.
  • Red is the colour of love.
  • Blue is calming, the colour of logic the sky and the ocean.
  • Green, we think of nature, and think of balance and harmony.
  • Pink is feminine and give the message you are gentle, calming and affectionate.
  • Yellow is energising and uplifting and encourages positivity. Don’t wear when you are nervous as it will give you the jitters.
  • Purple is a spiritual colour from the very brightest to the lightest lavender.
  • Brown solid and reliable, an earthy colour and one of nature.

Colours in our foods.

We all want to eat healthy and to choose foods that are feeding our body in the best way. Choose foods that are the most vibrant in colour. All fruits and vegetables particularly and see how colourful you can make your plate. Fill your body with colour in good food.

Colour Healing.

This is a big subject, but healing can be done in many ways, here are a few of the popular ways to use in colour healing.

  • Wearing colour
  • Crystal healing
  • Colour meditation
  • Essential oils and colour healing
  • Colour breathing
  • Visualising colour

Colour in your home.

When you are decorating your home be aware of which colour you are painting in each room. Bedrooms are often painted blue as it is a calming colour, and you want to create a peaceful place to sleep. If you were to paint a room with very vibrant colours like red make sure it is only on an accent wall and not all over as it could cause conflict.

The colours that you wear.

This is my true passion, and I love to help ladies find their own true colours and bring out the very best in them. It is fantastic for them to become the best version of themselves. This is amazing to see my clients just light up with the right colours and watch them grow as they introduce these colours into their lives. For some ladies it is life changing as they finally get the recognition they deserve in the workplace or perhaps they just become visible again. I have a passion for colour, and this is why

So, you can see that colour plays a huge part of our lives. As a Colour & Style Coach I have always known that. I know myself if I need to feel calm, I wear my own version of green or pink but if I need uplifting I will choose red or orange.

This is what lead me to learn about the healing properties of colour which I have found very interesting. More and more people are turning to complementary therapies and colour healing is one of those.

Are you looking to update your style?

Fed up of wearing what you have always worn? Are you in a style rut? Have you ever thought of re-inventing yourself and changing your style. 2023 is a new year and could be a new you too.

Are you looking to update your style
Are you looking to update your style

Are you looking to update your style?

We can so easily get into a style rut and buy what we have always bought. We are a creature of habit and tend to shop in the same shops and habitually buy the same things. Your black trousers need replacing and you go to back to the same place and buy a very similar pair.

This photograph was taking recently as my niece’s wedding in South Africa. This green is not a colour I wear very often, and I don’t know why. I got so many lovely comments on the day and when I have shared this picture on my social media the response was good. When I bought the dress a few years ago Ito go to another wedding bought two at the time and the other one was red. Which if you know me you know it is my favourite colour and so I wore that one and this has been sitting in my wardrobe since. I felt nice in this dress, it was comfortable, and it needed to be as it was 35c on the day and one I will enjoy wearing again.

Have you thought of shopping your own wardrobe?

This is exactly what I did when I knew I had another wedding to go to. I could not wear the red dress II wore to the last wedding as it was the other niece getting married. Sometimes, we can forget what we do have, particularly if it is not something that you wear regularly. Therefore, it is good to do a declutter every season.

Regularly look through your wardrobe and look at what you have. Pick out one of your favourite items and try to style it a different way to how you usually wear it. You want to get your wardrobe working for you, so all the items are worn in lots of different ways. This will also be a style re-vamp. Wearing clothes in different combinations will make the outfit look fresh and different.

As we mature our wardrobe changes

As we go through life our style evolves with us. In your 50’s you are not wearing what you wore in your 20’s and so your style changes with you. However, you may have some key pieces the same, but you are bound to be wearing them differently. Your situation changes, perhaps you are at home bringing up your children, or you are now in a high-powered corporate job each situation requires a different dress code.

Do you know how to style your body shape?

It really helps if you know how to style your own body shape so you can make the most of your figure. I have an eBook which explains how to find your body shape and then how to style it to become the best version of you. This you can purchase this from my website

Have you ever thought that you might want to re-invent yourself?

So, how do you do that? Where can you get new ideas on how to put outfits together. Firstly, you can follow me on my social media, the links are below as I am always posting colour combinations and style ideas. Think of someone you admire in the public eye who has a similar body shape to you and pinch a few of her ideas. Pinterest and magazines are another good place to look and they often also tell you where you can buy the clothes.

Accessories

Accessories are another great way to change an outfit. Have you thought about wearing a hat (well I certainly do in this cold weather). Scarves too apart from being warm in the winter they make a great accessory and can be worn in many ways. Shoes and handbags can add colour and style to an outfit. Jewellery particularly costume jewellery can add colour to a plain top and draw the eye up or down.

Most of us do not have as much disposable income to spend on fashion now so it’s about making small tweaks by adding and styling what you do have differently. Let go of what you are no longer wearing so you can see what you have. It makes putting outfits together so much easier.

It is about finding your own sense of style and playing around with ideas and trying different options. Have some fun with it, perhaps get some girlfriends round the more the merrier and the more ideas. Let me know how you get on I would love to hear your stories.

My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour
My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

Use colour to enhance your mood and colour yourself happy. Colour brings out the best in you and makes you look and feel fabulous. Therefore, so many of my clients choose to have a Colour Analysis Session. This is an investment in you, but who does not want to look and feel fabulous.?  If you are interested in finding out what a colour session involves do check out my website or give me a call. Wearing colour can change the way you feel, some colours will deplete your energy whilst others will give you energy. Here are my tips on how to enhance your mood using colour.

Understand the benefits of wearing colour

After a trained as a Colour and Style Coach and the more that I understood about colour the more I wanted to know the true benefits of wearing colour. I decided to do a Colour Therapy Training to understand the reasons why some colours were energy giving and others were not.  Previously, I worked in the London for many years and I had two skirt suits one black and the other grey. I used to have several blouses in neutral colours to wear underneath. I never knew at the time why I always felt grey wearing those colours. Now I do

Do you wear black?

I know that many ladies like to wear black as they think that it is slimming and yes, it is, but there are so many other colours that will do the same. Black is a very negative colour and can deplete your energy. It is also a colour of authority and can make others wary of approaching you. If you must wear a black suit for work, I suggest that you wear some colourful underwear and accessorise with some colour in some jewellery or a scarf.

Colours to wear to feel calm.

Think of doctors and hospitals they are always painted in a soothing pale green or blue for a reason. This is to keep patients calm before an appointment. If you are going on a long hall flight and want to be able to sleep part of the way you need to wear light calming colours. If you choose to wear a bright red track suit you will not be able to rest and get any sleep.

Colour yourself happy.

Yes, you really can do that, wearing colour can make you feel better. Wake up in the morning and you are feeling blue choose a nice colourful colour preferably one that is high in energy. Bright red and orange are particularly high energy colours but for some people will be too bright for them to wear. If you turn down the colour, say from orange to peach, or red to pink that will be enough for some. You don’t only have to wear the colour on top. You can wear it in your underwear, or socks in your boots if you feel you need that energy. If you have high blood pressure bright red is probably not the best colour for you.

My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

Some people are more aware of the energies around them. My trainer told me a story about a disabled client who she took personal shopping. This lady was partially sighted and was in a wheelchair.

She gave this client lots of different coloured tops to try on and she came out of the fitting room and said she would take the lot. She said that her carer only buys her black and now she has experienced how wearing colour makes her feel, she never wants to wear black again. How powerful is that she felt different wearing the different colours.

Look for different colour combinations

When I am looking for inspiration for colour combinations I think of nature.  Look at the colours in your garden as an example. See the different colour combinations and think to yourself would I put those colours together. Think of blue and green should never be seen, I love blue and green together and nature shows us that they can be worn together. Another colour combination I had not thought of before I trained was green and pink. Try it, they look fabulous as a colour combination. Have a play and see how many different colours combinations you can come up with in your wardrobe.

Find the right colours for you.

Have you ever thought of having a colour consultation? Finding out the right colours for you can be life changing as it was for one lady who came up to me at an event.

Here is an example of what a colour session can do.

Jane was working in a corporate company and kept getting overlooked for promotion.  After a colour consultation it all changed. Jane went from wearing a boring black suit to work every day to finding her own sense of style, wearing colour. Blending in was a thing of the past and she started to get noticed. One promotion after the other which she put down to the confidence she had gained from wearing the right colours

My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

Wearing colour really can improve your mood. Give it a try and let me know how you get on. It is fun to have a play and try with what you have in your wardrobe. Look for different colour combinations that you have not tried before. Please do post your comments as I would love to hear about different colour combinations that you tried.

Would you choose to wear these colours together? If you did not want to wear that level of colour you could turn the volume down. Dark purple trousers with an orange or peach top. If nature can do it, so can you.

How to update your look in a few easy steps.

How to update your look in a few easy steps.
How to update your look in a few easy steps.

Are you in style rut and need to update your look? Read on for some ideas on how to update your look in a few easy steps. Sometimes and can the easiest of things that can transform an outfit.

How to update your look in a few easy steps.

Makeup

We all live busy lives and so many ladies I see now have what I call a wash and go look. Which I am not saying is not good but think what I difference it would make to you face is you wore a brighter lipstick. A good lipstick will brighten the whole face. Personally, I do not like the fake tan look, but a light tinted moisturiser works well particularly in the summer and a hint of blusher. I wouldn’t go out without my mascara but don’t bother with eye shadow unless I am going out out!!

Hair

Your hair is the most important, as it is the outfit you wear every day. A good hair cut (and colour if you need too) makes all the difference. Next you need to wear you best smile as this will attract people to come and talk to you. So, with your hair looking nice and good makeup you are ready to apply the clothes.

Add a pop of colour

Wherever you put the colour in your outfit is where you will draw the eye. If you are concerned about your tummy area, put the colour elsewhere and wear your dark colours in that area. Normally, I would put the colour in my top (blouse, top or t/shirt) The colour then will bounce up onto your face.

Colour combinations

Look for different colour combinations. Instead of going for the trustee navy and white, wear a colour with the navy like pink, red, orange, mid blue, the list goes on. If you can see the colour combination in nature you know that it works.

Scarves & Jewellery

These are a great way of adding colour to your outfit. A small scarf in the summer or a coloured necklace will make an outfit.

Update your glasses

Who says glasses must be plain and boring? There are some lovely frames out there at affordable prices (you don’t have to have designer frames). If you don’t wear normal glasses, you may have readers and they really can be bright and funky. When I worked at Wallis I got known as the lady with the red glasses. Customers came in asking for me, so that was what i was known for.

Add some movement and texture to your clothes.

I do like fitted clothes, but I also like to feel comfortable in what I wear. Try wear skirts that have a swishing effect, they will skim your hips and add movement to your outfit. It is also nice to choose textured fabrics to add to your style.

I get my inspiration for colour combinations from nature

My trainer always said to me that nature never gets if wrong and she is so right. In this blog I will give you some ideas by looking at things in nature and transferring the colours into what you wear. I get my inspiration for colour combinations from nature.

"<yoastmark

I get my inspiration for colour combinations from nature.

We have all heard to saying, “Blue and green should never be seen unless there is a colour in between” This is so not true these days. Green with denim is a great combination because there are so many shades of green and blue to choose from. Navy and a bright green look great together and make a great combination for a wedding outfit. What is important is that you choose two warm colours or two cool colours which will tone with each other.

Here I have found a lovely t/shirt in a green stripe which is shown here with a pair of denim jeans and as you can see it is a great combination. This is from next at £20 and would also look great with a pair of white or cream jeans or chinos.

Use colourful jewellery & accessories

Use colourful jewellery, and accessories when putting your outfits together. Coloured necklaces are a good choice. Scarves are usually full of bright colours and make a great addition to any outfit. Coloured shoes and handbags also help to make a well put together outfit.

"<yoastmark

I get my inspiration for colour combinations from nature.

If you are a Winter or Summer these two colours look fab together, a dark winter green and a bright pink in whatever combination you choose. For ladies who are a summer I would suggest that you choose a lighter purple/lilac for a softer look. It is best if you carry your weight around the middle to put a dark colour on the bottom. The purple does not have to be a block colour it would be a floral print. The smaller you are the smaller the print and if you have a larger frame choose a large print.

"<yoastmark

Nature never gets it’s wrong

However, if you are a Spring or Autumn, try these lovely shades of bright green with an orange red. These two make a  great colour combination. If you are an autumn and these bright red colours are too bright for you can tone them down and perhaps go for more of a peach colour. You don’t want your clothes to wear you so all you see is the colour and not the person.

Nature inspires me to make great colour combinations.

Look at how all the colours seem to just blend and go with each other. Have fun with it and try putting different colours together, making different combinations. It does not have to be a green as a base colour it could be a navy, a dark purple. Orange and purple look great as do orange and navy.

It is important to have some fun with colour.

The important thing is to have some fun with colour. Don’t head to your trustee black trousers and white top try experimenting with different colour options. Wearing colour will make you look and feel better. Each colour vibrates at its own frequency and offers different levels of energy. Find out which level of energy you need to look, and feel fantastic. If you would like more details about colour and how each colour, make you look and feel do get in touch. Details of my colour consultations can be found on my website

Is Spring just around the corner?

Is Spring really just around the corner?
Is Spring really just around the corner?

I don’t know about you, but I am fed up with this weather. It is too cold wet and windy, and I cannot wait for the weather to break. We have been lucky and had a mild winter, but it must go now. Is Spring just around the corner? Looking at this picture I took this week I think we do not have too long to wait.  I want to get out of my thick jumpers into some spring clothes. How about you?

Is Spring just around the corner?

This time of year, as it starts to get warmer, and we start think about holidays and warmer times. I start to thinking about spring cleaning, and part of that process is also some decluttering. As you move the furniture around you find things lurking, magazines to re-cycle, papers to file and general tiding up. Looking out at the garden you can see all the shrubs that need cutting back, roses to prune and the lawn to cut. For me this is a great time of year as I know I have the whole of Spring and Summer to look forward too.

It could be time to start thinking about de-cluttering your wardrobe.

I am a great hoarder and find it difficult to let go of things, and yet I also love to buy new things.  The aim for me is to work on a one in, one out policy, but I still have things that I hold onto in case I have an occasion to wear them. Try asking why would I have clothes in my wardrobe that I do not wear? We all want a wardrobe to be full of clothes that you love and love wearing.

So where do you start?

As it is still early to put away all our warm clothes, I would look to cull anything that I have not worn in this cold season. Warm items that I have not worn for whatever reason. They may be worn out, the wrong size, or perhaps you may have replaced them but just not thrown away yet.

Before you let something go, see if you can find another use for it, or style it in another way. In a previous  Blog I wrote about how you can re-style clothes that you are no longer wearing. Here are some ideas on how you can change the use of a blouse or your jeans. I also have a page on my Pinterest with some ideas on how to re-use things that you don’t wear into something that you will.

Most ladies wear 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time.

How do you let things go?

It’s all very well saying you need to de-clutter; you need to streamline what clothes you have, but how do you do that if you still love the things that you have. Firstly, I think that you need to look at what you do have. You may be surprised when you take everything out the volume of clothes you have. You may find that you have several pairs of jeans or black trousers and how many of each do you need? If something does not bring you joy by making you look and feel fabulous then it must go. Ask yourself these questions?

  • Do I love it or is it outdated?
  • Is this something useful that I want to keep?
  • Is it in one of my colours or styles that suit my figure?
  • Would you buy this item again?
  • Am I holding onto this because of the memory it holds?

Start wearing your unworn clothes or let them go.

One person’s casts offs are another person’s gem. Just because it no longer fits you, or you do not have a use for it, does not mean it has to be thrown away. Charity shops are always happy to take clothes that still have some life left in them. Alternatively, you can sell them yourself on eBay or similar sights and get something towards you buying something new. Sort your clothes into piles of

  • Donate to a charity shop.
  • Sell online via eBay, Vinted, or similar.
  • Pass onto a friend.
  • Rubbish

Start wearing your everything that you have in your wardrobe.

You need to let go of the emotional attachment to the clothes. I have known some clients to take photographs to remind them of items they could not let go of. Others to store clothes that no longer fit them away in a case in the hope that if they lose weight, they can retrieve them. I never think that is a good idea but if that is what you would like to do, and they are taken out of the main wardrobe it is an option. My question to you would be why are you so attached to something that no longer serves you?

The advantages of a slimline wardrobe

  • It is easier to see what you do have.
  • Streamlined wardrobe
  • A wardrobe of clothes that you love and love wearing.
  • You are wearing everything you have in your wardrobe.
  • You have room to add to new items.

Free yourself of clutter and spring clean your wardrobe.

De-cluttering is very therapeutic, it is like clearing your mind, making space for new things to come in. They say if you are looking to embrace a new romance into your life clear a space for his clothes in the wardrobe! Less clothes in your wardrobe makes it easier to get dressed each day and it means you are always wearing one of your favourite outfits.

My tips on how to dress for a business meeting

My tips on how to dress for a business meeting
My tips on how to dress for a business meeting

This very much depends on the type of business you represent, but for me I am my own shop window.  Having said that I don’t feel the need to wear a suit as most of my clients are not in the corporate world. So here are my tips on how to dress for a business meeting.

My tips on how to dress for a business meeting

Should I wear a suit?

When I first started promoting my business and going to networking events it was interesting to see what others were wearing. I think at the time ladies felt that they should perhaps wear a suit, or jacket and trousers, as you would in the corporate world. BUT if you are not comfortable in a suit what is that saying about you? If you are uncomfortable in what you are wearing it will show. However, if you are wearing something that you know that you look good in that will give you confidence and we all want to feel confident at a business event. I think that times have changed now even in the corporate world and the dress code has relaxed.

Should I wear my uniform.

For networking I would say YES. If you are a beautician or therapist for arguments sake, that is easy and, I would suggest that you go in your uniform. Also, for networking they are usually during the day, and you are going straight onto work afterwards. If you have a uniform representing your own business and perhaps have a t/shirt with the company logo then that would be perfect as you are immediately recognised for what you do.

Choose something in your best colours

If you have had your colours analysed, you will know which colours will bring out the best in you. Style wise choose clothes that flatter your figure and bring out the best bits and draw the eye away from the bits you don’t like. If you need help with either of these look at my website for details on my services. I always choose something that I know will give me confidence.

My favourite colours are red, and orange and they are both energetic colours which give me the energy and confidence I need. When I first started out, I used to wear my favourite orange dress, which I called my lucky dress. I always got such nice comments when I wore it. This gave me confidence knowing that I looked nice. I would wear this dress when going to a networking event of when I was doing a talk and walking into a new environment. Knowing that you look good, makes you feels good, which gives you confidence.

Make that best first impression

People will remember you for what you are wearing so it is important to make that first impression. We have all talked over an event a few of us had attended and someone refers to the lady in the blue dress and you all know who she is referring to. Not everyone is outgoing and can walk into a room of people they do not know and feel completely comfortable.

Before I trained as a Colour, and Style Coach I used to dress in very little colour because I did not want to stand out. I wanted to blend in, so I can understand that when clients tell me that. You do not have to wear full on colour, in fact some ladies look better in pastels, so it is important to find out what is right for you.

People buy people

We all know that people buy people, so it is nice to show your personality in what you are wearing. If you are wearing a plain classic dress, add a nice piece of jewellery, or a scarf. Try adding some colour to your plain dress with a coloured cardigan, shrug, or jacket. Perhaps you could nip in the waist by adding a belt. I think that a nice pair of shoes or boots, and a coloured handbag add the finishing touches to an outfit (Your shoes and handbag do not have to match). It is about putting a whole outfit together that you feel comfortable in. If you know you look good you will feel good inside which will project to those you meet.

My tips on how to dress for a business meeting

My number one tip is to get your outfit out the night before an important business meeting. Try it on with all the accessories to you are happy with the result and this will make getting dressed in the morning less stressful. The next tip is to plan what you are going to say at the meeting, so you are prepared. The most important part to your outfit is wear your SMILE. This makes you approachable, everyone likes a friendly face, and you will be the one person everyone will want to talk to. Have fun with it and enjoy it as it will show.

We all know about the law of attraction, if you are looking confident and passionate about what you do it will show in your face, your eyes will light up, coupled with a positive attitude and you will attract the same back to you which is what we all want.

Can you wear autumn colours with a cool skin tone?

Can you wear autumn colours with a cool skin tone?

When you think of autumn colours you think of orange, yellow, mustard, rust, brown and green. These colours all have. Warm undertone and therefore only good for a warm skin tone. So, can people with a cool skin tone wear these warm colours? In this blog I am going to tell you how you can adapt these warm colours for a cool skin tone.

Can you wear autumn colours with a cool skin tone?

Let’s look at an autumn scene. I love it when the leaves all change colour and fall from the trees as the colours are just gorgeous. The most obvious colours are the ones I have just mentioned. If you have a cool skin tone these colours would not look good if they are worn up next to your face. However, there is nothing to stop you using these colours in your accessories. You could have a yellow handbag or rust coloured shoes as these are not next to your face.

How can I adapt the autumn colours to suit a cool skin tone?

There are cool colours that are found in the autumn leaves and trees, but you just have to look for them. Good base colours like a brown/black, forest green, burgundy, dark teal, and dark red. These colours are found in the autumn but are more commonly found in the winter. What is important is the undertone of the colour and a cool colour will have a blue undertone.

These are the cool versions of autumn

These colours here are all cool colours and could be the cool version of autumn. We have dark brown/black, burgundy, aubergine, and dark green. All these colours have a blue undertone which works well with a cool skin tone. You can also add a dark cherry red, and a deep purple. If you think of the warm autumn tones of Yellow, mustard, rust and brown which all have a yellow undertone.

Conclusion

In answer to my question Can you wear autumn colours with a cool skin tone? the answer is No. But you can wear a cool version of those autumn colours.  The brown/black is the cool version of brown. The burgundy is the cool version of rust and so on. There are warm and cool versions of green so there is a shade out there for everyone.

Knowledge is power.

My life changed when I started on my colour journey and understanding colour gave me the confidence to be who I wanted to be. I used to blend into the background as I wore beige as I wanted to blend in, and I got lost. Finding colour was the beginning for me of a fantastic journey, which I now want to share with other women who want to be noticed and not blend in. Wearing colour gets you noticed, and wearing the right colours gives you the confidence to be the best version of you. If you are interested in finding which colours work for you do get in touch.
