Have you embraced the trend of a shacket yet?

So ,what is a shacket I hear you say? Well, it is a cross between a shirt and a jacket. It is built on the same idea of a Coatigan which is a cross between a coat and a cardigan. Both works well if you are driving to work and don’t need a coat or for that time when it is too warm for a coat but not warm enough to go without. The shackets are much more casual than the coatigan and work well with jeans and trousers. So, have you embraced the trend of a shacket yet? Have you embraced the trend of a shacket yet? Have you embraced the trend of a shacket yet? I bought myself one in the sales after Christmas from Zara in a lovely bright red cord. I got a lot of wear out of it during our lock down walks and well into the spring. So, I think they are a good investment for a casual wear particularly if you are an outside person. I have picked a few for you to choose from here. I found this one at Next a cosy checked shacket in a blue and white check. It also comes in a pink check too and retails at £42.00. This colour I thought would work well with jeans and looks nice and cosy.           Have you embraced the trend of a shacket yet? Your shacket does not have to be casual. For a smarter…

Transforming your Summer wardrobe to Autumn

I have been quiet on here as I have just return from two weeks with my bestie in her apartment in Spain. We had a lovely break enjoyed some warm sunshine, nice walks, and great food. Is summer completely over now?  or will we have some warm sunny days like we have been enjoying this week. The news tells me that this is the first week of autumn. This blog is about transforming you summer wardrobe to autumn. The changing of the seasons. I love my summer wardrobe and are not ready to put it away yet. Summer makes me think of  warm weather, socialising outside and warm summer evenings. Longer days, light evenings inspire me to do more and make the most of the time. However, it is also nice to have the seasons and each season has its own good points. The best bit about the Autumn for me is how nature changes. The autumn leaves on the trees and the colours that shine through. I always take my inspiration for colour combinations from nature. If it works in nature it will work with your wardrobe. Transforming your Summer wardrobe to Autumn Transforming your summer wardrobe to Autumn So yes, we can still wear some of our summer clothes in the autumn, but we just wear them a different way. Take your favourite summer dress that you have been wearing with bare legs and sandals or trainers. For now, you could wear either a camisole underneath or a…

Are you ever too old to wear denim?

Are you ever too old to wear denim? Are you ever too old to wear denim? No, I don’t think so. It is all about dressing with your style in mind. I was in my local John Lewis and their manikins were dressed in denim. Personally, I would not wear denim dungarees as they are not my thing. I think they are more suited for  a younger women. (I am (63yrs) but some ladies I know could rock it. Styled with some white trainers and a t/shirt underneath. The denim shorts for me would depend on how you thought about wearing them. I have good legs and have a couple pairs of denim shorts and wear them a lot. In the first lockdown we did so much walking and the weather was so nice and so I did not wear anything else. If you do not want to show too much leg? how about choosing knee length ones? Pedal pushers which finish just over the knee, 7/8th trousers and then of course jeans, which there are many shapes to choose from. Are you ever too old to wear denim? Are you ever too old to wear denim? In this picture we have a long-sleeved denim dress with tiers which are on trend now. Denim can be a thick material so with this one you could be adding a lot of bulk with all the gathers unless it is a fine material. I think that anyone can wear a denim dress…

Have you thought about buying fewer clothes but better quality?

Have you thought about buying fewer clothes but better quality? As I have got older and am a lady of a certain age, I am no longer a slave to fashion. Yes, I like to be fashionable, but age appropriate with it. I am thinking now that I no longer want to buy clothes that I know will only last one season. I am wanting to buy clothes that I love, and I know I am going to love wearing for several seasons. So, that brings me to my question have you thought about buying fewer clothes but better quality? Have you thought about buying fewer clothes but better quality? Landfill is a big problem and therefore buying clothes that will last longer must be a good idea. I have never been a designer girl, mainly because I could not afford too. I am still not drawn to go that way but if that is for you, they are usually of good quality and will last and give you good wear. Think about price per wear? This is very important, if you buy something that you wear once and it sits in your wardrobe, it makes it an expensive buy. If, however, you splash the cash on a new coat it could start off by being an expensive buy. But, if you have that coat in your wardrobe for many years to come. Now work out how many times you have worn it and the price per wear will be…

Do you have too many clothes in your wardrobe?

Do you have too many clothes in your wardrobe? Do you have too many clothes in your wardrobe and do not know what to do about it? You find it difficult, letting things go in case you might get an invite somewhere to wear it. Or, you may have paid a lot of an item and feel guilty about letting it go or you may have an emotional attachment. I have a few suggestions here on how to rethink your wardrobe and wear more of your clothes. Do you have too many clothes in your wardrobe? I cull my wardrobe each season and as I put the next seasons clothes back into the wardrobe it is a good idea to put all the hangers one way. As you get things out and wear them, when they go back into the wardrobe, put the hanger the other way round. This way you will see which items you are wearing and which you are not. This will make it easier to see which items you no longer wear. Most women wear 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time Do you have too many clothes in your wardrobe? If you have too many clothes in your wardrobe this can cause overwhelm. You cannot see what you do have, which makes putting outfits together very difficult. Things get lost at the back of the wardrobe and you end up buying more which sometimes you will already have. This then becomes a costly mistake.…

My tips on how to dress your changing body shape.

My tips on how to dress your changing body shape. Our style changes as we get older, and our lives change. You may have had a corporate job and needed to be booted suited. Perhaps you now work from home, so you no longer need to wear a suit. You may be retired or working less hours so need a different kind of outfit. Either way you need to find your own sense of style and to wear clothes that not only look good but make you feel good too. Here are my tips on how to dress your changing body shape. My tips on how to dress your changing body shape Our bodies do change shape in our mid-life, it could be the menopause which causes our bodies to redistribute the weight, or it could be a change of lifestyle or just maturing. Either way it is about learning how to dress your new body shape in a flattering way rather than just covering up. Choose clothes that show off your new shape. With an expanding waistline I have seen ladies start to wear large and baggy clothes to camouflage a larger tummy area, but this can sometimes make you just look bigger all over. Check out one of my previous blogs with my tips on how to camouflage your tummy area. Some clients have grown a larger bust (something I would love to have done) and perhaps you were straight up and down before. Now is your chance…

How to move into your Spring/Summer wardrobe

I don’t know about you ,but I am fed up with this weather. Yesterday we went for a walk, it started to rain as we got out of the car, and we got soaked walking into town. We sat down for a coffee under cover in the sunshine and as we left to walk back it started raining and the hail stones came down. Today we put on our heavy winter coats and the sun came out and we were hot. The forecast for the weekend looks good and temperatures are set to rise up 22c. Here are my tips on how to move into your Spring/Summer wardrobe Is your wardrobe ready for the lovely weather coming this weekend? How to move into your Spring/Summer wardrobe With the weather so changeable it is difficult to know what to wear to cover every eventuality. This is when I go for layers. Layering up your clothes gives you the flexibility to take off, or add as the weather changes. I have already put away my heavy winter clothes and have my lighter clothes in my wardrobe. These I can layer up. I have not got my legs yet ,but have already started using my coloured moisturiser to take add some colour to my white legs. How to move into your Spring/Summer wardrobe So, instead of wearing thick jeans and boots, swap them for a pair of 7/8 cotton trousers and some trainers which I have chosen today. I have put a short…

Lockdown has changed the way I shop going forward

Lockdown has changed the way I shop going forward Lockdown has made us all think differently about so many things. More and more people are working from home and perhaps will go to the office once a week. I think it has made us all think about our lives, where we are going and looking to the future. One thing that I noticed was I was not wearing all of my clothes. I have had a huge thrift and weeded out unwanted items. Here are my thoughts on how lockdown has changed the way I shop going forward. Lockdown has changed the way I shop going forward. I know that when we open and I am back working fully I will need to be wearing more of my everyday clothes. I have learnt that I need to think differently about what I buy in the future. It has made me think twice about buying in the sale. During my clearing out process I noticed that several of the items in the charity bag were items I had bought in the sale. What does that say to you? Was I just buying them because they were cheap? They cease to become a bargain if you don’t wear them. Small local boutiques and independents. With so many shops that have left the high street and not enjoying shopping online I must look elsewhere. I am going to start buying from the small boutiques and independent retailers. Hopefully going forward there will be…

My tips on using accessories to complete your outfit.

For some people putting an outfit together with accessories is easy, but for others they need some guidance. Just by adding a necklace or scarf can make all the difference and bring your outfit alive. If you were choosing a wedding outfit, you also think about shoes, handbag and possibly a hat or fascinator. So, why not think about accessorising your everyday clothes. Here are my tips on using accessories to complete an outfit. Jewellery is another way to bring an outfit to life. My tips on using accessories to complete your outfit My tips on using accessories to complete your outfit I am a fan of scarves; in the winter they do add some warmth and will brighten up any coat. So many ladies have a dark coat perhaps in a navy or black, add a scarf it can transform the look. Particularly take care to choose one in one of your best colours, this will shine up onto your face and make it glow. The scarf will keep you warm and the colour will make you look and feel fabulous. Scarves can be used as an accessory to bring your top or dress to life. On the red dress here, I have tied the two ends of a scarf together to make and infinity scarf. It can be worn with the tie at the back or in the front as a feature. This blue scarf on the right is just draped around the neck and held together with…
