How to update your autumn wardrobe

How to update your autumn wardrobe Now if you read last weeks blog about changing from your Summer to Winter wardrobe you will have done some de-cluttering and now have some new pieces of clothing that you need to shop for.  So how to update your autumn wardrobe. Should I follow the fashion trends? So, should you follow the fashion trends?  Are you a slave to what the fashion mags say?  What I always like to advise my clients is to invest in the classic core items in your wardrobe that won’t go out of date.  These are worth investing in as they will stay in your wardrobe for several years ie a winter coat, a good pair of quality trousers and jackets etc. Then you can add some high fashion items to wear with those and some on trend accessories.    I do personally like to follow fashion and stay up to date but I am not a slave to fashion, I know what suits me and which colours to go for so it makes life a lot simpler. (If you would like any help on learning which colours suit you and ways to dress your body shape please do get in touch) or visit my website for more details.  www.colourworx.me  Click Here    You don’t’ need to pay  huge prices for designer items to look good. but if you do like to wear designer I would suggest that you try TXmaxx, the designer outlets, or any of the Dress…

How to go from your summer to winter wardrobe

Is your wardrobe a rainbow or a drudge or grey and black? As the weather has got cooler and the shops are filling up with warmer clothes now is the time to put away all your summer clothes and embrace the new season.  So, how to go from your summer to winter wardrobe.  Here are a few ideas. Firstly you need to clear away all your summer clothes and I do this by puting them on the large top shelf of my wardrobe where I have stored all my winter jeans etc but some of you may have a suitcase to put the other seasons clothes.  But before you do that are there any that you know that you will not wear next year.  Maybe they are past there best, they no longer fit, or you don’t like the colour on you anymore but there is no point storing them for next year if you know you are not going to wear them again.  Some items may need to go to the cleaners, sandles will need to be re-healed ready for next year and some clothes may need to be althered and sent to a tailor but all this can be done now so in the spring they are ready to wear again. If they have been in your wardrobe for some time and you have not worn them this summer that may be a clue that you don’t need to keep them anymore.  I always try to put these…

This week as we see the weather cooling down we all reach for warmer clothes as we turn around our summer wardrobe for a winter one.  So what is on trend for autumn 2016?  I am going to share with you some of the current on trend items available to buy on the High Street. Midi pleated skirt Midi Pleated Skirt I remember having one of these years ago and yes they have come back.  They are in all the shops and what seems to be most on trend are the metalic ones which I have seen in Topshop, Next, Marks & Spencer to name but a few.  Other stores are stocking them in lovely colours from Pink through to dark green so the choice is yours.  Mine is a bronze metalic one from M&S and shall be wearing it with a shirt/blouse in the day time and a silky t/shirt in the evening but they also look good with a nice jumper and boots. Embroidered-jeans Embroidered Jeans These are everywhere on the high street in all styles skinny and flared like these, so take you pick and choose a style that flatters your shape.  They make your jeans look a little bit special and are a great to dress up.  Not really an investment buy as they will date,  so don’t spend too much on a pair. These are teamed with a silk shirt but also look good with sequin tops to make them look good for glam for…

What Should You Wear to a Networking Event?

What should you wear to a networking event? Now the summer is over and we are all back to work, we are also back to Networking, but what should we wear?  Everyone says that people would have made an assumption of you in the first 30 seconds, so how do you make that great first impression bearing in mind that people will remember you for what you wear. So, What should  you wear to a networking event?   It is so easy for to men to dress for a Networking event, because they don’ t have the choice us ladies do.  Most networking is either first thing in the morning, lunch time of after work so it just easy to go straight from work which usually means they are in a suit or jackets and trousers, but I have noticed now that some are just dressed smart casual as the workplace now days is more relaxed.   Should I wear a Suit? When I first started networking having had a corporate back ground, I felt that you had to wear a suit because that is what used to be expected.  Yes there were lots of ladies there wearing suits and jackets and skirts/trouser suits but I must admit that some did look very uncomfortable,  because perhaps it was not their personality. Beauty Uniform Should you wear your uniform? Now if you are a beautician or therapist for arguments sake, that is easy and I would suggest that you go in your business uniform. …

Petite Girls Style Tips

So here are my tips on how to dress a petite frame.  Funny, as whose of you who know me, I  have always been tall and slim but I always wanted to be small and petite,  I guess we all want to be something different to what we are.  But why?  We should be happy in our own skin and learn to dress our frame to make the most of what we have. Petite Girls Style Tips I think that the most inportant thing is to get the proportions right and the easiest way to do that is to buy from one of the petite ranges available in the high street and here are a few that offer a good choice. Wallis Precis Top Shop Next Dorothy Perkins Next.co.uk www.very.co.uk www.independent.co.uk www.boohoo.com www.asos.com Trousers Petite Girls Style Tips Petite Girls Style Tips   Many shops do sell trousers by the length and do a short options so you may not need to go to a shop with a petite range so it is worth checking out some of the general fashion stores.  Yes you can turn up the length but do be careful not to take up too much as this will often change the desired shape of the trouser.  If you do use wounderweb as you just iron that on.  Another idea is to roll up the trouser leg, in fact, I  have just bought a pair of jeans with just that look.  Just always remember that not to…

Tall Girls Style Tips

Being a tall lady myself I know the problems of shopping to find trousers that are long enough,  blouses and tops that don’t look like they are cropped, long sleeves that look like a long 3/4 sleeves.  Forget buying a swimming costume or a jump suit as they are never long enough in the body. So what can we do, here are a few of my  Tall Girls Style Tips. Tall Girls Style Tips Trousers – Lets start with trousers, yes there are a number of stores who do sell their trousers by leg length which is very usefull and I will list all the stores at the foot of this blog.  So what can you do if not, always check to see if there is a hem that you can let down and use that wonderweb to re-hem as it is easy to use and just iron on.  Or  you can add a false hem to your trousers by using a co-0rdinating fabric to make it look like it is supposed to be there.  This works particulary well on and slim leg trousers.  Another option is to shorten them to a 7/8ths length to finish on the ankle, or go for the new length wide leg cullottes length if you prefer that.  Failing that you can just roll up the leg.   Just always remember that not to finnish a hem on the largest part of you leg. Body length – Now this is a difficult one, I am…

Which Colours are best for you?

Finding out which colours are best for you can be life changing. Someone came up to me at one of my events and said to me ” I had my colours done some time ago and for me,  it was definately life changing.  I had been overlooked for promotion at work many times and I didn’t know why, as I knew I was capable and right for these roles.  I had a colour consultation and started to wear colour to work and I started to get noticed and was no longer over looked. Since then I have been promoted several times and now hold a senior role in a Corporate company” So how do you know which colours are best for you. Warm Red                       Cool Red   One of my clients said to me Red is a good colour for me, but she was wearing the wrong red.  She had a warm complection and should have been wearing a yellow based red but in fact she had chosen a blue based dark red which was totally wrong on her.       Colour swatch Colour is the essence of successful dressing It affects how we feel and how people respond to us Getting it right gives us more confidence Colour attracts the eye It’s the very first thing people notice about us and it’s what we are remembered for Colours which match our skin tone enhance our natural looks     …

“How To Look a Million Dollars”

I am going to share with you some ways to make your outfits look expensive in some very easy ways which won’t cost a fortune.  Its really simple to upscale an outfit to make it look a lot more expensive. So here goes “How to look a million dollars” “How to look a million Dollars” Firstly make sure that you have a good fit and if neccessary take to a tailor and get those nips and tuck where they are needed.  I recently bought this simple navy dress in a sal for £9.00 in Asda but it was a size too big.  Bargain I thought so,  I had to take in the bust with a few stitches under the arm and all was good. Add some gold accessories, and I have added a gold statement neckless and cuff bracelet and it brings it alive. Wearing all one colour is a great way to elongate the look but if you are using separates make sure that the two items are the same colour as two black can look very different. Tuck in your shirt tales, I know lots of ladies like to wear these outside to cover up your bum, but try tucking into your skirt or trousers.  Try this also with a baggy jumper and tuck in the hem. Cinch in your waist with a nice belt Keep your handbags nice and clean and shiney, store in your wardrobe in the dust covers to protect them. Invest your money in…

How To Wear Denim

How To Wear Denim Smart I have lots of denim in my wardrobe because it can look very casual or you can dress it up to look quiet formal in a casual way if that makes sense.  So how do you wear denim?  Here are a few ideas you might like to consider. How to wear Denim for work Denim Jeans We all have a pair of jeans in the wardrobe and they can vary from a pale denim which appear to be more casual and look great with a t/shirt or perhaps a dark denim pair which if you want to dress you can do so with a sparkly top for a party.  If perhaps you are out networking or to lunch with a friend how about a nice cotton blouse with a navy blazer and a coloured scarf in the neck or a coloured jacket with a statement neckless.  This you could team up with a red hand bag and red shoes or boots.  I really love this look and normally choose a boot cut or kick flare for this smarter look but would wear skinny jeans tucked into boots or wear with ballet pumps. Sleeveless jackets are another good idea for this time of year as it is not cold enough for a jacket.  I have a tailored navy one which I wear with my jeans and can really add style to an outfit. Coloured Jeans These are all over the high street in many colours, so choose one of…

Find your own Sense of Style

Find Your Own Sense of Style How many times have I heard   “I have lots of clothes in my wardrobe but I never have anything to wear”. This is a common complaint by many women as they buy something random because they like it but don’t think about what they have in their wardrobe to wear with it. So, I am going to give you some ideas on how to find your own sense of style, by using the clothes in your wardrobe but wearing them in a different way. Its all about finding your own unique style which will develop over the years.  So how do you do that?  Well magazines are a good place to start to look and see how outfits are put together, see how the clothes are styled in the shops and on the manikins, but my favourite is to people watch, wherever you are and see how other ladies put outfits together. It can be a good idea to look back at photos of yourself and see if you like a certain look. Fashions do change and so will your own style over the years. Go to your wardrobe and pull out one of your favourite things, it may be a pair of trousers or jeans for argument sake.  Perhaps you would normally team this up with a t shirt, blouse or shirt.  So why not add a textured Gillet when it is not cold enough to wear a coat but you need something.  You…
