My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour
My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

Use colour to enhance your mood and colour yourself happy. Colour brings out the best in you and makes you look and feel fabulous. Therefore, so many of my clients choose to have a Colour Analysis Session. This is an investment in you, but who does not want to look and feel fabulous.?  If you are interested in finding out what a colour session involves do check out my website or give me a call. Wearing colour can change the way you feel, some colours will deplete your energy whilst others will give you energy. Here are my tips on how to enhance your mood using colour.

Understand the benefits of wearing colour

After a trained as a Colour and Style Coach and the more that I understood about colour the more I wanted to know the true benefits of wearing colour. I decided to do a Colour Therapy Training to understand the reasons why some colours were energy giving and others were not.  Previously, I worked in the London for many years and I had two skirt suits one black and the other grey. I used to have several blouses in neutral colours to wear underneath. I never knew at the time why I always felt grey wearing those colours. Now I do

Do you wear black?

I know that many ladies like to wear black as they think that it is slimming and yes, it is, but there are so many other colours that will do the same. Black is a very negative colour and can deplete your energy. It is also a colour of authority and can make others wary of approaching you. If you must wear a black suit for work, I suggest that you wear some colourful underwear and accessorise with some colour in some jewellery or a scarf.

Colours to wear to feel calm.

Think of doctors and hospitals they are always painted in a soothing pale green or blue for a reason. This is to keep patients calm before an appointment. If you are going on a long hall flight and want to be able to sleep part of the way you need to wear light calming colours. If you choose to wear a bright red track suit you will not be able to rest and get any sleep.

Colour yourself happy.

Yes, you really can do that, wearing colour can make you feel better. Wake up in the morning and you are feeling blue choose a nice colourful colour preferably one that is high in energy. Bright red and orange are particularly high energy colours but for some people will be too bright for them to wear. If you turn down the colour, say from orange to peach, or red to pink that will be enough for some. You don’t only have to wear the colour on top. You can wear it in your underwear, or socks in your boots if you feel you need that energy. If you have high blood pressure bright red is probably not the best colour for you.

My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

Some people are more aware of the energies around them. My trainer told me a story about a disabled client who she took personal shopping. This lady was partially sighted and was in a wheelchair.

She gave this client lots of different coloured tops to try on and she came out of the fitting room and said she would take the lot. She said that her carer only buys her black and now she has experienced how wearing colour makes her feel, she never wants to wear black again. How powerful is that she felt different wearing the different colours.

Look for different colour combinations

When I am looking for inspiration for colour combinations I think of nature.  Look at the colours in your garden as an example. See the different colour combinations and think to yourself would I put those colours together. Think of blue and green should never be seen, I love blue and green together and nature shows us that they can be worn together. Another colour combination I had not thought of before I trained was green and pink. Try it, they look fabulous as a colour combination. Have a play and see how many different colours combinations you can come up with in your wardrobe.

Find the right colours for you.

Have you ever thought of having a colour consultation? Finding out the right colours for you can be life changing as it was for one lady who came up to me at an event.

Here is an example of what a colour session can do.

Jane was working in a corporate company and kept getting overlooked for promotion.  After a colour consultation it all changed. Jane went from wearing a boring black suit to work every day to finding her own sense of style, wearing colour. Blending in was a thing of the past and she started to get noticed. One promotion after the other which she put down to the confidence she had gained from wearing the right colours

My tips on how to enhance your mood using colour

Wearing colour really can improve your mood. Give it a try and let me know how you get on. It is fun to have a play and try with what you have in your wardrobe. Look for different colour combinations that you have not tried before. Please do post your comments as I would love to hear about different colour combinations that you tried.

Dress yourself to look slimmer

Yes, that is right you can dress yourself to look slimmer using clothes and accessories to bring out the best in you. Read on to find out my best tips.

Choose the right size

When I worked in a retail store so many ladies were obsessed with buying a certain size and did not want to go up a size. If you are a normal size 12 and this size is too small and pulling in the wrong places, try the next size. In the larger size will look so much better as it will hang better and skim the areas you want to hide.

Try looking at your posture.

This can make so much difference, try standing up tall with your shoulders back and this will automatically pull your tummy in. Growing up I didn’t like being tall and tried to give the impression of not being tall. Now however I stand tall like a giraffe proud of my height.

Wear the right underwear.

Your underwear is the undercoat to your outfit so make it good. It will make or break the look there is nothing worse than seeing lots of lumps and bumps. You can slim your body lines with the right underwear and avoid the visual panty line (VPL). I not a lover of the garments that are supposed to hold in your tummy as I believe that the fat must go somewhere, which is usually around the muffing top area. If you do want to wear this type of underwear do choose a larger size to what you normally wear.

Invest in a good fitting pair of jeans.

You do not need oodles of pairs of jeans so invest in one good pair. Take care when choosing a pair as too much stretch will accentuate any lumps and bumps. I would go for a medium rise of high waisted jean which will smooth out your curves giving you a nice shape. Fit and flare jeans will make your legs look longer. If you carry your weight on your bottom half wear a dark denim and leave the softer pale colours for the younger women.

Leave your jacket/cardigan undone.

If you are wearing a jacket always leave it undone as this will have a slimming effect with a top underneath. The clean lines of the fitted blazer will work with your curves and if you don’t have curves will give the illusion of a waist.

Jewellery

You can use jewellery to draw the eye down and can add length to a short neck and bring attention away from your hips. If you are wearing a necklace in the neck area or big bold earrings, you are saying look at my face. If bracelets are your thing that will draw the attention away from your upper arms.

Footwear.

If you need to add some height, you can do so by wearing a heal, the taller you are the slimmer you will look. I am already tall and don’t wear heals but you can choose a platform trainer if heals are not your thing. If you are looking for extra height try wearing the same coloured show as the trousers you are wearing. This will give the illusion of being taller.

Dress in one colour top to toe.

Wearing one block colour creates a vertical line which makes you look taller and thinner. The darker the colour the more slimming it will be. Therefore, so many ladies are the lover of the little black dress, but the dress does not have to be black it can be any dark colour.

Stripes yes or no?

If we are aiming to slim body lines horizontal stripes are a definite no no unless you have a very slim figure. Vertical lines give a long lean line. Trousers often have a stripe down the side which gives the illusion of your legs going on forever. It also works well in a cotton striped shirt worn outside you trouser it gives that long clean lines.

Learn how to style your body shape

If you are interested in a style consultation, please do get in touch, or visit my website for details of what a consultation involves. Alternatively, you can purchase my ebook “How to style your body shape and become the best version of you” which explains how to define your body shape and then how to make the most of your figure

What should you wear to face to face networking

What should you wear to face to face networking
What should you wear to face to face networking

Have you returned to face -to- face networking? I have, but then I never did enjoy networking online. As I am my own shop window, I much prefer to work face to face. For some people attending a live event brings another problem what to wear. We are always being told that people will make an opinion of you in the first 60 seconds of meeting you, before you have even spoken. So how do we do that? Read on to find our what you should wear to a networking event.

What should you wear to face to face networking?

As a Colour & Style Coach I feel the pressure more than anybody as no one would expect me to get it wrong. So yes, it is important to make the right choices. People will remember you for what you wear, so by wearing the right colours and the right style go a long way to achieving the perfect look. Here are my tips on what to wear for a face-to-face networking event.

Is a suit the way to go?

When I started networking many years ago it was a ladies networking group and I would say that 75% of the ladies were either wearing suits, or jackets with a skirt or trousers. One thing I noticed was that out of those ladies only a handful were comfortable in what they were wearing, and it showed. You can look smart without wearing a suit.

Dress to suit your personality

People buy people, so it is important to get your personality across and you can do that by how you put your outfits together. If you are wearing a plain dress add some jewellery, or a scarf and team it up with a colour shrug or cardigan. Avoid wearing all black as this can make you unapproachable. Black is also a very negative colour and will deplete you of energy. Wear another dark colour on areas you do not want to highlight. Make sure you wear smart shoes and carry a nice handbag, don’t spoil an outfit with poor accessories. It also goes without saying that you should have clean hair, nice makeup, no chipped nails, holes in your tights or dirty shoes.

Choose something you feel comfortable in

The point is you must feel comfortable, if the service you are offering is in a relaxed environment, then you can dress that way. Most people are nervous enough going to networking events so make the experience easy for yourself. Choose something that you love and love wearing. We all have things in our wardrobes that we know we are going to get some great comments when we wear them.

  • A smart dress
  • Smart trousers with a nice top
  • Skirt and top

I have seen ladies in a jumpsuit, culottes whatever you feel good in and you love wearing for me is the key. Just bear in mind this is a business event so beware of flashing too much flesh.

Should I wear my uniform?

I would say yes if you had a uniform that is a great way to promote your business. Many therapists wear their uniform and companies that wear polo shirt with logos on. After all you are there to promote your business and people will remember you for what you are wearing so a great idea.

What should you wear to face to face networking?

So, to sum up then. Choose something you know that you look good in and you feel comfortable in too, as this will give you confidence. Get out your outfit the night before and hang with all the accessories you plan to wear with it. Make sure you pack your bag for the next day before you go to bed to save time in the morning. You don’t want to leave those important business cards at home.

Turn up in plenty of time, as there is always free networking before the start. The most important thing of all is to wear a smile. This makes you very approachable, everyone loves a friendly face, so you will be the one everyone wants to talk too.

We have all heard about the law of attraction, if you are looking confident and are passionate about what you do it will show in your face, your eyes will light up. Couple this with a positive attitude and you will attract back to you what you are putting out. Have some fun with it, but if you need any advice do not hesitate to get in contact.

Colour yourself happy by using colour to enhance your mood

Use colour to enhance your mood. Colour brings out the best in you and makes you look and feel fabulous. Therefore, why so many of my clients choose to have a Colour Analysis Session. This is an investment in you, but who does not want to look and feel fabulous. Wearing colour can change the way you feel, some colours will deplete your energy whilst others will give you energy. Colour yourself happy by choosing colour to enhance your mood.

Understand the benefits of wearing colour

After a trained as a Colour and Style Coach and the more that I understood about colour the more I wanted to know the true benefits of wearing colour. I decided to do a Colour Therapy Training to understand the reasons why some colours were energy giving and others were not.

Do you wear black?

I know that many ladies like to wear black as they think that it is slimming and yes, it is, but there are so many other colours that will do the same. Black is a very negative colour and can deplete your energy. It is also a colour of authority and can make others wary of approaching you. Colours to wear to feel calm.

Think of doctors and hospitals they are always painted in a soothing pale green or blue for a reason. This is to keep patients calm before an appointment. If you are going on a long hall flight and want to be able to sleep part of the way you need to wear light calming colours. You don’t only have to wear the colour on top. You can wear it in your underwear, or socks in your boots if you feel you need that energy. If you have high blood pressure bright red is probably not the best colour for you.

All colours have an energy

Some people are more aware of the energies around them. My trainer told me a story about a disabled client who she took personal shopping. This lady was partially sighted and was in a wheelchair. She gave this client lots of different coloured tops to try on and she came out of the fitting room and said she would take the lot. Look for different colour combinations

When I am looking for inspiration for colour combinations I think of nature as nature never gets it wrong. Look at this hanging basket with the orange and purple flowers. Would you choose to wear these colours together? If you did not want to wear that level of colour you could turn the volume down. Dark purple trousers with an orange or peach top. If nature can do it, so can you.

Find the right colours for you

Have you ever thought of having a colour consultation? Finding out the right colours for you can be life changing as it was for one lady who came up to me at an event.

How to update your look in a few easy steps.

How to update your look in a few easy steps.
How to update your look in a few easy steps.

Are you in style rut and need to update your look? Read on for some ideas on how to update your look in a few easy steps. Sometimes and can the easiest of things that can transform an outfit.

How to update your look in a few easy steps.

Makeup

We all live busy lives and so many ladies I see now have what I call a wash and go look. Which I am not saying is not good but think what I difference it would make to you face is you wore a brighter lipstick. A good lipstick will brighten the whole face. Personally, I do not like the fake tan look, but a light tinted moisturiser works well particularly in the summer and a hint of blusher. I wouldn’t go out without my mascara but don’t bother with eye shadow unless I am going out out!!

Hair

Your hair is the most important, as it is the outfit you wear every day. A good hair cut (and colour if you need too) makes all the difference. Next you need to wear you best smile as this will attract people to come and talk to you. So, with your hair looking nice and good makeup you are ready to apply the clothes.

Add a pop of colour

Wherever you put the colour in your outfit is where you will draw the eye. If you are concerned about your tummy area, put the colour elsewhere and wear your dark colours in that area. Normally, I would put the colour in my top (blouse, top or t/shirt) The colour then will bounce up onto your face.

Colour combinations

Look for different colour combinations. Instead of going for the trustee navy and white, wear a colour with the navy like pink, red, orange, mid blue, the list goes on. If you can see the colour combination in nature you know that it works.

Scarves & Jewellery

These are a great way of adding colour to your outfit. A small scarf in the summer or a coloured necklace will make an outfit.

Update your glasses

Who says glasses must be plain and boring? There are some lovely frames out there at affordable prices (you don’t have to have designer frames). If you don’t wear normal glasses, you may have readers and they really can be bright and funky. When I worked at Wallis I got known as the lady with the red glasses. Customers came in asking for me, so that was what i was known for.

Add some movement and texture to your clothes.

I do like fitted clothes, but I also like to feel comfortable in what I wear. Try wear skirts that have a swishing effect, they will skim your hips and add movement to your outfit. It is also nice to choose textured fabrics to add to your style.

Shop your own wardrobe before going shopping

Shop your own wardrobe before going shopping
Shop your own wardrobe before going shopping

Have you ever thought about shopping your own wardrobe? This is an interesting one, as you will find items that you did not realise you had. This often happens when you are decluttering. Have you ever bought a new top, only to find when you get home, that you already have a similar one in your wardrobe?

You may not have the same amount of funds available to spend on clothes.

As times are quite different and perhaps, we may not have the funds now to buy new clothes, why not look at what you already have. This is a great time to do this as we have been putting away our winter clothes and getting out our summer ones. It is always lovely when we find those hidden gems, items that you had forgotten you had. There will be items that no longer serve you that you need to let go.

  • Any that are worn out.
  • Ones that do not fit you anymore.
  • Items that are not in your colour or no longer fit your style.

Getting rid of clothes that no longer serve you.

We need to let go anything that is not working in our wardrobe, if we are not wearing it for some reason, why not? If you no longer love it, and love wearing it, then it is time to let it go. Once you have a smaller wardrobe you are able to see what you do have. Then you can see the gaps and shop with purpose for the items you need.

It is nice to have new things, but you get satisfaction in rediscovering an old favourite, it almost feels like a windfall.

Find new ways to style existing items in your wardrobe

Instead of styling the same bottom with the same top, look at other items in your wardrobe to make an alternative outfit. I know people who when they go shopping, they buy a complete outfit and only wear those items that way. This is such a shame as each item can be worn in so many ways to make more outfits. It is one of the things I say to my clients who come for a colour consultation. Once you know your colours, everything will mix, and match and you will need less clothes to make more outfits. For details about a Colour Consultation please follow this link to my website

Shop your own wardrobe before going shopping

I think most women have too many clothes in their wardrobes and so they are unable to see what they do have. Sometimes we go out to buy something to go with a new item without looking at what we already have. We have all done it me included, and so how do we remedy this. Firstly, when purchasing something new, think about what you already have in your wardrobe that it will go with. If you have nothing in your wardrobe that it goes with, the chances are you need to question what you are buying.

Save money & save time

Who does not want to do that? It may seem like a lot of effort to streamline your wardrobe, but once you have, it will save you shopping time and money. You can then get organised; you will know exactly what clothes you have and the many ways you can wear them.

What does Chelmsford have to offer for some retail therapy?

So many of the shops I used to use have now closed in Chelmsford. I am not a lover of ordering online myself, as I am always so disappointed when they arrive. The colours are always different, and you can never tell much about the fabric online. I have a personal shopping client soon and wanted to have a good look around Chelmsford to what is available. Failing that it would be a trip to Lakeside.

What does Chelmsford have to offer for some retail therapy?

What does Chelmsford have to offer for some retail therapy?

One shop that I always loved visiting when I went into London was Oliver Bonas and now, we have one in Bond Street Chelmsford. This store is like a small department store as it sells ladies clothes, jewellery accessories, and home wear. It is like a little treasure trove. Here is picture that I took this week and as you can see, I homed in on my favourite colours. You can purchase a whole outfit in here dress or separates, handbag jewellery, and even hair accessories. This is on my list of shops to visit. The advantage of having a store in town is you can return online orders to the store.

Fat Face & White Stuff

These are two shops I have not shopped in until recently when my usual stores disappeared. They offer a more casual daytime look so it depends on what type of outfit you are looking for. They both use ethically scorched cotton which feels nice on the skin.

Phase Eight

This is the place to come to if you are looking for something to wear for a special occasion. They have a good range of long and short dresses so I would visit for something special.

John Lewis

This is the only department store left in town now that Debenhams has closed. This is a beautiful store filled with concessions and a small section of their own brand. If you are looking for store that has lots of variety this would be it. You can shop for almost any outfit here which is why this is a good store to head to when Personal Shopping. They also have a coffee bar and restaurant when you need a break.

Marks & Spencer

This is a good shop for the basics, I shop here for my underwear, trousers (as they do a long length) and plain tops. If you order online from here you can have them delivered into store, to save paying for postage. In fact, the online store is very good and has stocks from many different stores and of course if they are unsuitable, they can be returned to store.

H&M

This store often gets confused as being a store for the younger lady but don’t be put off it is worth a visit. If you are looking for clothes to wear to the office at a reasonable price they do a good range of skirts, trousers, and shirts. This store has different price ranges and styles, so you do need to have a good look round.

Next

Next is a favourite of mine, but if you are in Chelmsford, I would recommend you visit the Chelmer Village Store, rather than the one in town as this store is so much bigger. This is a great place to go for most things, but online there is a greater choice but at least we do have a store to visit. You can also return online orders to store like M&S

Quadrant

Now this store is worth a visit, it has many concessions in here, some I have not heard of but there is plenty of choice and currently has a good range of summer clothes.

What does Chelmsford have to offer for some retail therapy?

In answer to this question, I think Chelmsford does have a lot to offer if you are looking to update your wardrobe.

How to dress using layers in unpredictable temperatures

How to dress using layers in unpredictable temperatures
How to dress using layers in unpredictable temperatures

Last week we had such warm sunshine and great temperatures for the time of year, and I was talking about looking at your spring wardrobe. However, this week it is a totally different situation with cold temperatures and a need to wear your warmer clothes. Here are my tips on how to use layers to dress in unpredictable temperatures.

How to dress using layers in unpredictable temperatures

This week my husband and I went to Lincoln for a few days. On Monday late afternoon we sat outside a bar with a glass of wine, and I was wearing a t/shirt and cardigan. The next day we were walking around in jeans, jumper, heavy winter coat with a scarf. The following day we were wearing much the same but also it was windy with rain. Three days and the weather were totally different on each day.

So, how do you dress for these types of weather conditions?

Fortunately, we were aware that the weather was going to be a lot cooler and gone prepared, but how do you cope with these unpredictable temperatures?  Hopefully, we have past the time for a need for thermal underwear, but I love wearing a camisole under my blouses and jumpers as an extra layer offering some warmth.

How else can you do this? Layering your clothes is the way to go. Take you favourite dress, and put a t/shirt or jumper underneath if you know it is going to be a colder day. If you think that it will warm up during day you start with a jacket of cardigan over the dress so you can remove if you get warm.

How to dress using layers in unpredictable temperatures
How to dress using layers in unpredictable temperatures

Too warm for a coat but too cold to go without.

Have you tried one of these sleeveless coats? This one I bought from Zara a couple of months ago and I always choose to wear it when I feel I need something but not necessary a coat. So far I have worn it over a warm jumper or sweatshirt, but I can see myself wearing it over a long sleeved t/shirt as the weather gets a bit warmer. It could also be worn over a winter dress instead of your winter coat.

Layers can also slim your body lines to make you look slimmer

Try wearing a tunic with a long line waterfall cardigan over the top, with a long necklace, by wearing layers you can draw the eye down. It also means that if you do get warm you can take a layer off.

Long cardigan coats or coatigans

I love these and they are a great asset to any wardrobe as they are lightweight, but they do add some warmth and really make an outfit. They are warmer than a blazer because they are longer, but they are not so structured as a jacket, giving a more relaxed chic look.

Use the layers to put a chic outfit together

You can use dressing with layers to make the most of your figure. What we are looking to do here to draw the eye away from the areas you do not like and enhancing the bits that you do. If you would like more information about how to dress your body shape you can purchase my eBook “How to style your body shape and become the best version of you” Download from my website. For £5.00

if you need any advise please give me a call on my details below or visit my website for more details as to how I can help you.

It is time to spring clean your wardrobe. Here’s how

It is time to spring clean your wardrobe. Here's how
It is time to spring clean your wardrobe. Here’s how

Spring has arrived, we have had some lovely sunny and warm weather to enjoy this week. This has inspired me to want to go through my spring/summer wardrobe and put away my heavy winter clothes. This week see’s the clocks going forward which will mean lighter evenings for those walks after supper.

It is time to spring clean your wardrobe. Here’s how

The one thing I have learnt during this lock down is that I have too many clothes in my wardrobe that I do not wear. I am a great hoarder and find it difficult to let go of things, and yet I also love to buy new things. I try to work on a one in, one out policy, but I still have things that I hold onto in case I have an occasion to wear them. Why do you have things in your wardrobe that you do not wear? Your wardrobe should be full of things you love and love to wear.

Now that the weather has broken, we are able to put away our thick winter clothes and start to wear lighter layers and look forward to enjoying our summer wardrobe.

How to start

So, in this process what I am looking to do, is put away my winter clothes and bring out my summer ones. Anything that I know I will not wear next winter, I need to let go. The same goes for the spring summer clothes. There is no point putting clothes into my wardrobe that I don’t love and love wearing.

Before you let something go see if you can find another use for it or style it in another way. In a previous  Blog I wrote about how you can re-style clothes that you are no longer wearing. Here are some ideas on how you can change the use of a blouse or your jeans. I also have a page on my Pinterest with some ideas on how to re-use things that you don’t wear into something that you will.

Most ladies wear 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time.

How do you let things go?

It’s all very well saying you need to de-clutter; you need to streamline what clothes you have, but how do you do that if you still love the things that you have. Firstly, I think that you need to look at what you do have. You may be surprised when you take everything out the volume of clothes you have. You may find that you have several pairs of jeans or black trousers and how many of each do you need? If something does not bring you joy by making you look and feel fabulous then it must go. Ask yourself these questions?

  • Do I love it or is it outdated?
  • Is this something useful that I want to keep?
  • Is it in one of my colours or styles that suit my figure?
  • Would you buy this item again?
  • Am I holding onto this because of the memory it holds?

Start wearing your unworn clothes or let them go.

One person’s casts offs are another person’s gem. Just because it no longer fits you, or you do not have a use for it, does not mean it has to be thrown away. Charity shops are always happy to take clothes that still have some life left in them. Alternatively, you can sell them yourself on eBay or similar sights and get something towards you buying something new. Sort your clothes into piles of

  • Donate to a charity shop.
  • Sell online via eBay, Vinted, or similar.
  • Pass onto a friend.
  • Rubbish

It is time to spring clean your wardrobe. Here’s how

You need to let go of the emotional attachment to the clothes. I have known some clients to take photographs to remind them of items they could not let go of. Others to store clothes that no longer fit them away in a case in the hope that if they lose weight, they can retrieve them. I never think that is a good idea but if that is what you would like to do, and they are taken out of the main wardrobe it is an option. My question to you would be why are you so attached to something that no longer serves you?

The advantages of a slimline wardrobe

  • It is easier to see what you do have.
  • A more streamlined wardrobe
  • A wardrobe of clothes that you love and love wearing.
  • You are wearing everything you have in your wardrobe.
  • You have room to add to new items.

Choose to buy investment pieces that will last.

Owning less items perhaps means that you can spend more on each individual item, as you are going to get so much wear out of each piece. If you choose pieces that are in your own personal colour pallet, they will all go with each other. Only buying clothes that suit your body shape will also mean you will wear them more. What you must be careful of is buying things that are in fashion but do not necessary suit your shape or skin tone. With all this talk about land mines being full of disposal fashion perhaps now is the time to think of purchasing better made clothes that will wear better. Just a thought.

Free yourself of clutter and spring clean your wardrobe.

De-cluttering is very therapeutic, it is like clearing your mind, making space for new things to come in. They say if you are looking to embrace a new romance into your life clear a space for his clothes in the wardrobe! Less clothes in your wardrobe makes it easier to get dressed each day and it means you are always wearing one of your favourite outfits.

What not to discard from a wardrobe declutter

What not to discard from a wardrobe declutter

What not to discard from a wardrobe declutter. There are certain items in your wardrobe that are worth keeping and you should not let go. Obviously, if  something does not fit anymore or is worn out, they must go. What often happens while you are decluttering it can be easy to let things go and then a few months later regret letting go of some pieces.  Some items never seem to go out of fashion and are worth keeping. Here are my tips on which pieces to hang onto when you declutter your wardrobe.

Leather Biker or Denim Jacket.

I cannot tell you how long I have had this denim jacket, in fact I also have one in a peach too. These can be worn in so many ways, casual over cotton trousers, over a printed summer dress, and over a skirt. I also have a leather navy biker jacket which I wear in the same way in the cooler weather.

Classic Wool Coat or Trench Coat.

I tend to keep my winter coats for many years and throw them away once they have worn out or I have replaced them. My classic beige mac I have also had for many years and although it is very old it still looks good and is very useful. These are key items that do not date and will always serve you well.

Leather Shoes & Boots.

If you invest in good quality leather footwear they will last for many years. When I put my winter boots away for the summer, I have them re healed and give them a good polish so when I take them out in the autumn, they will be ready to wear. If they are in good order and comfortable, why would you want to discard them? If you are bored with the colour, you can dye them.

White/Cream Cotton Shirt.

There is nothing nicer than a crisp white shirt over your smart denim jeans, add a colourful blazer to complete the look. When the shirt is a little past its sell by date you can wear it under a sweatshirt or jumper with the collar and sleeves showing.

Round Neck Buttoned up Cardigans.

These are useful pieces to have in your wardrobe as you can wear them many ways.

  • Wear buttoned up with a scarf in the neck.
  • Wear with the buttons down the back.
  • Put the cardigan over a T/Shirt and to the top button up.
  • Leave the buttons undone over a shirt or dress.

Jackets/Blazers.

These are staples in your wardrobe, and I have had some of mine, for many years and I would not part with them. Although I love fashion, I have learnt to dress for my body shape and so if I have a jacket in the style and colour, I love there is no need to change it. Obviously, there does come a time when you need to, so that is when I would be ready to let go. Jackets are so useful and can make an outfit, so usually these are investment pieces that you want to last.

Belts & Accessories.

If you have some leather belts, I tend to keep them as they are useful to bring in the waist on an outfit. Coloured belts make a great accessory, particularly in one of your colours so, definitely to not let go. The same goes for coloured jewellery if they work with the clothes in your wardrobe and you are wearing them hang on to them.

Gold or silver jewellery that you are no longer wearing, sell the gold and invest in something you will wear.

If you are unsure what to discard?

If you are hanging onto things and feel uncomfortable to let them go, store them away. Put them in a box in the loft. If you have not visited that box for a year it shows that you do not need it. If however you do miss the item you can access it.

Colour consultation testimonial

I was initially a little concerned to come as you know how hard I find it to stay still  I thought today was brilliant. The time just flew past!!! I’m so grateful that you took so much time to ensure that the right choice was made. I’m excited to get into colours now. You are so lovely and I’m glad that we have had some time together, so I had the opportunity to get to know you better. Having their colours done is something all women should do. I am going to shout all about it at our next networking meeting and the others I go to. Honestly so impressed and would be very glad to leave a review .Or you can use the above if you have anywhere on your social media, etc.
