Everywhere you look on the high street you will find pleated fashion, from skirts, trousers, and dresses. But, can we all wear them? yes you can it’s just a question of finding the right style for you. Here are my tips on how to wear the current trend of pleats.
My tips on how to wear the current trend of pleats
I was meeting a friend for coffee last week and popped into Dorothy Perkins as I was looking for a top for one of my clients. I saw this skirt hanging on the end of a fixing and homed in on it. My friend said to me, that has your name on it! I was not looking to buy anything for myself, but I guess you must pick up these things when you see them. What I liked about it was it has a waist band at the front, so the gathering does not show.
The colours are gorgeous and as I love orange and green, I will have lots to wear with it. I had this orange blouse already in my wardrobe, but I do have an orange linen jacket that I was wearing on this day. I am very pleased with my purchase knowing that I have many things in my wardrobe to wear with. This skirt retails at £32.00 and is at the midi length.

If dresses are more your thing, how about this one. Mark on Lorraine showed this one this morning. If you have a wedding to go to, or a special party this season, this is fabulous. It’s from Jasper Conran at Debenhams – Bright Green Abstract Print Pleated Dress. It was £99.00 but is currently reduced to £79.00. I like the belt in the material of the dress, but you could change that is you wanted too and worn with a nice pair of sandals with make a great posh frock outfit.
If you wanted to dress this down, you could wear it with a white denim jacket and a pair of white trainers. This way your posh frock with get worn again.

The other way to embrace the pleats is in a pair of trousers. I have found that there are a lot of trousers in the midi length but being tall I prefer to wear them full length. I guess they are a take on the palazzo trouser which never seems to go out of fashion. This pair from H&M come in at £34.99. They come in this lovely rust colour and a soft blue. I have not seen them in the flesh, as the Chelmsford branch did not have them, but they do look very nice.
Personally, I would either wear something outside or make sure that the waist band is not showing. Try blousing the top inside to cover it. Or, perhaps wear a nice belt.
If you like the midi length Zara have a very nice pair like this in red which look more like culottes. There really is a lot of choice out there to choose from.
Top Tip
One tip I would offer you is to go for your usual size or one above, just so that the pleats do not stretch out. This can make you look bigger than you are. If there is not enough material, they can tend to make you look hippy.
