Shop your own wardrobe before going shopping

Shop your own wardrobe before going shopping Have you ever thought about shopping your own wardrobe? This is an interesting one, as you will find items that you did not realise you had. This often happens when you are decluttering. Have you ever bought a new top, only to find when you get home, that you already have a similar one in your wardrobe? You may not have the same amount of funds available to spend on clothes. As times are quite different and perhaps, we may not have the funds now to buy new clothes, why not look at what you already have. This is a great time to do this as we have been putting away our winter clothes and getting out our summer ones. It is always lovely when we find those hidden gems, items that you had forgotten you had. There will be items that no longer serve you that you need to let go.   Any that are worn out. Ones that do not fit you anymore. Items that are not in your colour or no longer fit your style. Getting rid of clothes that no longer serve you. We need to let go anything that is not working in our wardrobe, if we are not wearing it for some reason, why not? If you no longer love it, and love wearing it, then it is time to let it go. Once you have a smaller wardrobe you are able to see what you do…

How to dress using layers in unpredictable temperatures

How to dress using layers in unpredictable temperatures Last week we had such warm sunshine and great temperatures for the time of year, and I was talking about looking at your spring wardrobe. However, this week it is a totally different situation with cold temperatures and a need to wear your warmer clothes. Here are my tips on how to use layers to dress in unpredictable temperatures. How to dress using layers in unpredictable temperatures This week my husband and I went to Lincoln for a few days. On Monday late afternoon we sat outside a bar with a glass of wine, and I was wearing a t/shirt and cardigan. The next day we were walking around in jeans, jumper, heavy winter coat with a scarf. The following day we were wearing much the same but also it was windy with rain. Three days and the weather were totally different on each day. So, how do you dress for these types of weather conditions? Fortunately, we were aware that the weather was going to be a lot cooler and gone prepared, but how do you cope with these unpredictable temperatures?  Hopefully, we have past the time for a need for thermal underwear, but I love wearing a camisole under my blouses and jumpers as an extra layer offering some warmth. How else can you do this? Layering your clothes is the way to go. Take you favourite dress, and put a t/shirt or jumper underneath if you know it is…

It is time to spring clean your wardrobe. Here’s how

It is time to spring clean your wardrobe. Here’s how Spring has arrived, we have had some lovely sunny and warm weather to enjoy this week. This has inspired me to want to go through my spring/summer wardrobe and put away my heavy winter clothes. This week see’s the clocks going forward which will mean lighter evenings for those walks after supper. It is time to spring clean your wardrobe. Here’s how The one thing I have learnt during this lock down is that I have too many clothes in my wardrobe that I do not wear. I am a great hoarder and find it difficult to let go of things, and yet I also love to buy new things. I try to work on a one in, one out policy, but I still have things that I hold onto in case I have an occasion to wear them. Why do you have things in your wardrobe that you do not wear? Your wardrobe should be full of things you love and love to wear. Now that the weather has broken, we are able to put away our thick winter clothes and start to wear lighter layers and look forward to enjoying our summer wardrobe. How to start So, in this process what I am looking to do, is put away my winter clothes and bring out my summer ones. Anything that I know I will not wear next winter, I need to let go. The same goes for the…

Are you returning to the office and need some workwear?

Are returning to the office to work after having spent the last two years working from home? If you are, your wardrobe might need some updating.  So many of us have been working from home and therefore had no need to dress for work. Perhaps you have been sitting at your computer in your track bottoms with no need for office wear. Returning to the office your wardrobe may need some updating. Are you returning to the office and need some workwear? Are you returning to the office and need some workwear? If you read last week’s blog about de-cluttering, you may know which key items you need to replace this season. It is not about buying a whole new wardrobe, but just injecting a few new key pieces to update what you already have. Here I have chosen a jacket Military Tailored Blazer from Lipsy. I have chosen a nice bright colour, but it does come in a choice of 11 of colours to suit all tastes. This I found on the Next website and retails at £67.00. Here it is styled with a pair of jeans. If you can wear jeans to work, choose a pair that are high waisted, tailored with a flare for a business feel. You could wear this blazer over a dress, or with a pair of trousers, a knee length skirt, or a long -pleated skirt.  On your feet for a more casual look wear a pair of trainers. For a smarter look…

Is Spring just around the corner?

Is Spring really just around the corner? I don’t know about you, but I am fed up with this weather. It is too cold wet and windy, and I cannot wait for the weather to break. We have been lucky and had a mild winter, but it must go now. Is Spring just around the corner? Looking at this picture I took this week I think we do not have too long to wait.  I want to get out of my thick jumpers into some spring clothes. How about you? Is Spring just around the corner? This time of year, as it starts to get warmer, and we start think about holidays and warmer times. I start to thinking about spring cleaning, and part of that process is also some decluttering. As you move the furniture around you find things lurking, magazines to re-cycle, papers to file and general tiding up. Looking out at the garden you can see all the shrubs that need cutting back, roses to prune and the lawn to cut. For me this is a great time of year as I know I have the whole of Spring and Summer to look forward too. It could be time to start thinking about de-cluttering your wardrobe. I am a great hoarder and find it difficult to let go of things, and yet I also love to buy new things.  The aim for me is to work on a one in, one out policy, but I still have…

There is a pair of jeans for every body shape. What’s yours?

There is a pair of jeans for every body shape. What’s yours? There is a pair of jeans for every body shape. What’s yours? Jeans are a staple in your wardrobe, and you are never too old to wear them. It is important to find the right style to flatter your body shape. It can be very confusing as there is so much choice out there. Here are a few tips to help you on your way. This picture here shows some of the many styles available at www.newlook.co.uk. There is a pair of jeans for every body shape. Whats yours? Kick Flare Jeans These are a favourite of mine and not only are they seriously chic, but they are great for adding shape particularly if you are a tall slim lady like myself.  Choose a pair that skim the floor and hang over your shoes they can make your legs look longer. If you choose a pair that kick out from the knee, they will create an hourglass silhouette particularly if you are big busted. Tuck in your top to show off your waist. Boot Cut Jeans You can never go wrong with a good pair of Boot cut Jeans a wardrobe staple in my mind. These will suit all body shapes and if you get the fit right, they complement any figure. If you carry your weight around your middle wearing a boot cut will balance out the look. Choose the thicker denim that won’t lose their shape.…

Are you aware of everything in your wardrobe?

Are you aware of everything in your wardrobe? I think that most of us will admit that they have too many clothes in our wardrobe. Some ladies I know have more than one wardrobe, whilst others have a summer and a winter closet. Are you aware of everything in your wardrobe? Are you aware of everything in your wardrobe? This is an interesting one and I think I could answer yes, but I guess a lot of others could not. We all know that most women wear 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time. So, it goes to show, there must be lots of clothes not being worn. BUT why is that? Habit Clothes close to hand. Wardrobe is too full to see what you have. Too lazy to make up new outfits. Limited number of clothes still fit. So, what needs to go? That is simple, anything that does not fit you anymore. Why keep clothes that you can no longer fit into? (Yes, you could say I am going to slim down and get into them). If that is the case, take them out of your wardrobe and pack them away until you lose the weight. Remove anything that has worn out or is beyond repair. Anything that you no longer wear because of the style or colour. As we get older, we are no longer wanting to wear what we did when we were younger. Our life may have changed, perhaps we are returning to work…

My tips on how to dress for a business meeting

My tips on how to dress for a business meeting This very much depends on the type of business you represent, but for me I am my own shop window.  Having said that I don’t feel the need to wear a suit as most of my clients are not in the corporate world. So here are my tips on how to dress for a business meeting. My tips on how to dress for a business meeting Should I wear a suit? When I first started promoting my business and going to networking events it was interesting to see what others were wearing. I think at the time ladies felt that they should perhaps wear a suit, or jacket and trousers, as you would in the corporate world. BUT if you are not comfortable in a suit what is that saying about you? If you are uncomfortable in what you are wearing it will show. However, if you are wearing something that you know that you look good in that will give you confidence and we all want to feel confident at a business event. I think that times have changed now even in the corporate world and the dress code has relaxed. Should I wear my uniform. For networking I would say YES. If you are a beautician or therapist for arguments sake, that is easy and, I would suggest that you go in your uniform. Also, for networking they are usually during the day, and you are going straight…

My style tips on how to disguise your tummy area I get asked this question all the time. How do I camouflage my tummy area? I guess it is an area that many ladies carry their weight. If it is not here it is probably on the thighs or bottom. It is all about being a woman and loving your curves and learning how to make the most of your lovely figure. Here are my style tips on how to disguise your tummy area. My style tips on how to disguise your tummy area. When you talk of body confidence so many ladies are conscious of their tummy area. I know since the menopause my body shape has changed and I sometimes feel bloated in that area. So, here are my tips on how to camouflage your tummy area with some simple styling ideas. Choose the right underwear for your outfit. This is so important as your underwear is the canvas which you put your clothes on top. Firstly, get yourself fitted for a bra. So many ladies are wearing the wrong size, and this will impact on the overall look of your clothes. If you have large breasts that are hanging low, you will not be able to see your waist. I am not a fan of support knickers as the fat must go somewhere and you can end up with a muffin top. Choose a pair of knickers that will give you a smooth line and no VPL…
