Now, I think we all have clothes in our wardrobes that we do not wear but cannot bear to part with. Perhaps we paid a lot for them and therefore feel guilty to let them go. They may hold a memory that we want to keep, remind you of someone special or you may just not want to part with it. What if you could turn it into something you would wear? Now that would be so much better than throwing away. I am going to give you some ideas in this blog as the to possibilities of what you can do. So, lets re-style the clothes you no longer wear into something you will.

Re-style the clothes you no longer wear into something you will

We are living in a throwaway society, but we are becoming more aware of land fill , and more of us are looking to buy preloved and preserve the clothes we do have to last longer. I always turn to Pinterest to get my ideas and it has come up trumps this time. I cannot re-post the photos, but I can put a link to each post for you.

Wear your clothes a different way

By styling your clothes in a different way people will think that you are wearing something new. Take a button through cardigan that you usually wear with the buttons at the front possibly partly undone and wear the other way round with the buttons at the back all done up. This is just a simple idea, but people will think you are wearing something new.

Try adding a belt to your favourite dress or jumpsuit to get a different look. Wear your button through dress as a coat over a t/shirt and trousers/jeans and use accessories, jewellery, scarves and handbags to get a different look.

Re-style your old jeans

Shorts

The most common way to use an old pair of jeans is to turn them into some shorts, by cutting off the legs. You can fray the hems for a casual look, or you can turn them up. On Pinterest there are some great ideas using  lace and embroidery. I love to see something like this as it makes for a unique piece that no one else will have.

Skirt

If you are more creative, you can transform you jeans into a short denim skirt. This is not something that I would try, but those of you who have a machine might like to give it a try. Here is a pin on Pinterest to show you how.

Handbag

I think that a denim bag is a good summer accessory and here you can see how to transform a pair of your old jeans into  a cool bag. For this one you do not have to have any sewing skills. These are great ways to transform a pair of old jeans, they may be too small for you now, or have the wrong leg shape but they can be transformed into something that you will use. They do not have to only be blue denim they could be a coloured pair.

Re-style your long-sleeved shirt into a peasant blouse

Now this one is really cool, they have used an man’s shirt and turned it into a beautiful peasant style blouse. Now, for this one you do need to have some dress making skill or know someone who has. This is a cool idea for someone who is creative and enjoys making themselves something totally original.

Change the buttons on a item

By changing the buttons on jacket can change the whole look of it, bring it up to date with gold or antique buttons and it will look different again. I once put different coloured buttons on a plain white shirt one in every colour. This made the shirt so versatile as I could wear any coloured cardigan or jacket.

Turn an unworn dress into a blouse

This is an easy transformation, perhaps the skirt part of the dress is now too tight, but the top part still fits well, and you love the colour. Remove the bottom part to the dress and cut into a blouse or tunic.

The list goes on, check out my Pinterest board for more ideas on how to re-style the clothes you no longer wear into something you will. If you do not have a sewing machine or you are just not that way inclined, find a good tailor/dressmaker. If you love the item and cannot wear it for some reason it is worth paying to have it altered so that you can. This way we will be helping with the landfill and doing our bit to save the planet.
