How to embrace the colour in your life

Anyone who knows me will know that I love to wear colour.  Why?  because it makes me look and feel fabulous, it gives me confidence knowing that I am looking and feeling good.  Bright colours have lots of energy which make it easier to do everything you want to do in a day, whereas black can deplete your energy. So here I am going to talk about how to embrace the colour in your life. Summer scene Green top with jeans Lets take a look at nature because it never gets it wrong, look at this stunning picture with the various shades of green, brown and the beautiful blue flowers in the front of the picture.  Would you put green and blue together?  Remember that saying, blue and green should never be seen, and yet they look great together.  Find a top in the best shade of green for yourself and wear with your favourite jeans and I think you will agree it looks great and a great alternative to white.       Flower Market Looking at these wonderful colours in these flowers taken at the flower market in Amsterdam.  Look how many colours you see that look beauatiful with green.  So, perhaps instead of a pair of black trousers why not choose a pair in green and as you can see so many colours look good with green.  Now the green can be karki, forest, lime, emerald the choice is yours.  A colour combination that is often not…

How to clear the clutter in your wardrobe

How to clear the clutter in your wardrobe As a Colour & Style Coach I am going to start by clearing the clutter in your bedroom but please do not stop there.  Why not work your way through your whole house one room at a time.  It is like lifting a huge load from your shoulders, not 0nly does it clear the energy in the room, but it will make it easier to find things, remind you of what you already have and make a more relaxing and tidy space to sleep in.  So here are my ideas on how to clear the clutter in your wardrobe.   Firstly clear the room with all the decorative items and start by giving your bedroom a good clean.  This room should be a relaxing and calm place to go to, so no brightly coloured walls, choose nice warm nautual colours and if you still like to add some bright colours do so in the lampshades, cusions or accessories.  Once the room is clean put back but remember less is more and try to go for the minimalistic look to make the room look as light and airy as possible.  Make sure your bedside table is clear and not piled high with papers.  Don’t leave your clothes lying around on backs of chairs etc, if they are clean enough to wear again put them back in the wardrobe.  The same goes for shoes and boots. Now, start by empting the wardrobe and have…

Spring is all about statement sleeves

Pink Shirt with detailed sleeves White 3 bell sleeved blouse Blouses Spring is all about statement sleeves which is where all the detail is and you can go as big as you like although not very practicle when you are working but they make a great statement piece when you are going out.   So here are my picks for the Statement Sleeves for Spring 2017. This lovely Pink Shirt is teamed up with a pencil skirt in a virbrant red, two colours you may not initially put together but if you think about it pink is just a watered down red so they look great together. The White one will be a lot more workable and being white and will go with most things in your wardrobe.  If you are warm skin toned lady add some warmth with your accessories with a coloured statement necklace or a bright coloured scarf or choose a warm white or cream version or a blouse in one of your colours.  I am just showing the design here. Spring is all about statement sleeves. Red Coast Dress with Bell Sleeves Top Shop Bell Sleeved dress Dresses The theme also follows through with dresses too and I love this Red Dress from Coast.  The dress itself is very plain but look at those sleeves how stunning are they.  Of course, as anyone who knows me, this bright red is one of my favourite colours. For the yonger woman take a look at this striped dress…

What is trending for Spring 2017 ?

Sandra’s Choice Sales are over and the shops have cleared all the old stock,  and now all the new stock  coming through.  So what is trending for Spring 2017 ?   Here are some of my ideas of what we can be wearing this spring. Floral Skirt Florals Florals are still very much on trend for Spring 2017.  Take a look at this lovely floral skirt, a great piece to have in your wardrobe.  Team it with a plain white shirt for a formal look or a t/shirt for a more casual look. Pick out one of the colours in the skirt and team with a top in that colour.   This is the new length which is just over the knee and teamed with a healed shoe I think can look very smart.       Floral top Floral Tops These are also around in all the shops, and I love this one its a cross between and jumper and a sweat shirt it looks great with any pair of jeans or denim skirt. Now the number one rule to remember when buying florals is that the bigger the person the bigger the print and the smaller the person go for a small print and that goes for anything from dresses, tops, skirts and trousers.       Cold shoulder top Cold Shoulder Tops Yes these too, are also still around for the season, either you love them or hate them but they do tick all the boxes in that…

Is Red a Colour everyone can wear?

Although we can all wear most colours,  it is the intensity and undertone of the colour that counts.  Red is very much considered a Christmas colour but of course it can be worn any time of the year.  Anyone who knows me will confirm without doubt, red is one of  my favourite colours.  Why?  Because I know which red suits me and also I love the energy and power that wearing red gives me.  So, in answer to the question Is Red a Colour everyone can wear?  the answer is YES. Warm Red Blouse Warm Red If you  have a warm skin tone you need to wear a warm red and you can identify this as a red with a yellow undertone. I often describe this as an orangy red which is a bright vibrant colour like this lovely blouse.           Cool Red Cool Red Dress If you have a cool skin tone you need to wear a cool red and you can identify this as a red with a blue undertone.  I often describe this as a raspberry red which is a dark red. Loving this seductive dark red dress from Next.             Warm or Cool? A very simple rule to bear in mind when you are shopping is whether the shade is warm or cool.  If you try both options,  cool red and then warm red, you will see the difference very clearly.  Try one shade and look at the…

How to extend the life of your clothes

Whether your item of clothing was a bargain or expensive we all want to keep them looking as lovely as when we first bought them.  But every day unknowingly we are doing things that are causing our clothes, shoes and accessories to wear.  So here are my top tips on how to extend the life of your clothes. Well Organised Wardrobe Rotate Your Wardrobe In my husband’s wardrobe, his clean shirts go in on the right hand side and he takes out from the left. This gives even wear to all his shirts, but it is easier for a guy to do this if they are wearing shirts and trousers to work each day. We always talk about putting together a capsule wardrobe and buying less clothes to make more outfits but there is definitely something in rotating  your clothes rather than wearing something you love over and over again. This is particulary true of shoes or boots, try to wear each pair two or three times a week rather than every day as this will wear them out so much quicker. It is also better for your feet to wear different shoes each day. Stain Removal Since having my daughter, I swear by wet wipes as they get out most stains without leaving a ring. They are great for small spillages and I always keep a pack of wet wipes in the car. Dry Clean with Caution I always check the cleaning label before buying an item as I…

Wear your scarf as a Fashion Accessory

As a Colour Consultant I love using scarves to introduce some colour and style to my outfits.  Wear your little black dress but add a colourful scarf to enhance your own sense of style. So here are my top tips to wear your scarf as a fashion accessory. Scarf Toggles £10.00, £8.50 & £5.00 Scarves don’t just have to be functional and worn to keep you warm as they make a great fashion accessory.  Why not try adding some scarf jewellery, these toggles just slip onto your scarf and make a great alternative to wearing your usual necklace.  These scarf toggles can be put on all your scarves and therefore would compliment any outfit. Oblong Scarves are the most popular and here is a video clip on how to make a nice flat knot that is easy to do but very effective. Check out my video clip on my Colourworx Facebook Page       Square Scarves are the most verstile as you can also make them into an oblong.  I personally love these large square ones with a fringe detail, so easy to wear with no difficult tying to remember. Or add a touch of French chic and tie a scarf in the neck of your blouse. The Snood or Infinity Scarf is a great option to wear inside your coat and will brighten up any plain jacket or coat in the winter months. Wraps are very on trend this year and are a great option if you are…

Are you wearing the right colour in your makeup?

Yes it really does make a difference, following on from my blog last week about wearing the right colours in your clothes, the same goes for your makeup. Many of us like to wear red lipstick at Christmas, but which red will you choose?  I had a lady come to me and say, I know I have a warm skintone and I can wear red lipstick, but whenever I wear a red one it does not look right, so where am I going wrong?  With a warm skintone she needed to wear a red lipstick with a yellow undertone (orangy-red) and she was wearing one with a blue undertone, (dark red) which was where she was going wrong.  Are you wearing the right colour in your makeup?   Blue Red Lipstick A COOL red will have a blue undertone and be a dark red, more of a raspberry red, if that makes sense. Orange Red Lipstick A WARM red will have a yellow undertone, and be an orangy red – much brighter.  Wear the right colour and it will make you look and feel fabulous. BLUSHERS – If you have a cool skintone you want to go for a pinky blusher and if you have a warm skintone you will need to go for a peachy blusher. Foundations These are simple rules that will make all the difference.  Whether you choose to wear powder or cream foundation you do need to get the correct colour. I would suggest that you…

Why Should You Have a Colour Consultation?

There is a lot of pressure out there to wear certain colours because they are in fashion. This season is mustard is one of those colours, but if you do not have a warm skintone mustard would not be a good look for you. So why should you have a Colour Consultation? Which colours should I wear? A colour consultation with me involves putting my drapes and wands around the face to firstly decide if you have either a warm or cool skintone.  Next we decide what level of colour you like to wear and as you can see from my colour wands it is like turning up or down the dimmer switch of colour.     As we all know we are all made up of energy and colours are just the same.  Once we have put the colours on and allowed the body to soak up the energy, our skin will tell us if it suits us or not. During our consultation we will talk about why wearing certain colours we feel a certain way.  Some colours will give us energy whilst others will deplete our energy. Wearing the right colours will bring out the colours of your eyes, give your skin a youthful glow, make your hair shine and overall give a smooth complexion. Wearing the wrong colours will have the opposite effect and make you look tired, stressed, drawn and generally unwell. (These are the colours you need to wear when visiting the doctor!!) Linda These…
