Yes, I can now say that I am doing a job that I love but it has not always been that way. I used to work in London commuting every day for many years. I worked in Banking Recruitment and you were only as good as your last placement. It was extremely competitive and it was tough, but I enjoyed the buss of working in the City. I bought my own flat and lived on my own with a mortgage and although I didn’t wish to stay in recruitment, there was no alternative I was on my own with a mortgage to pay. I was good at what I did and got paid for that. I felt trapped and could not see a way out.
Whilst I was bringing up my daughter, I wanted to be around for her so I worked part time, often having two jobs, just to bring in the money. When Katie went to University, I had the opportunity to re-train and do something for myself.
I am doing a job that I love – How about you?
I am now a Colour & Style Coach which is something I wanted to do. I have always been interested in fashion and clothes and felt I had a natural flare for it. I chose not to train with one of the big corporate companies. I wanted to operate my business myself and be totally independent. After training on Colour and Style, I went back this year to train on Personal Shopping and Wardrobe Audit. I can honestly say that I love my job and it does not feel like working.
Colourworx Colour & Style was born
Starting up on your own can be scary, I started with a website which I wrote myself as this business is me and comes from the heart, so it had to sound like me. Social Media and marketing yourself is a mindfield but when you are doing something that you love and have a passion for, your enthusiam shows through and is infectious. People tell me that my face lights up when I talk about what I do.
Personal Shopping
A few weeks ago, I took a client personal shopping, she wanted to buy some clothes for her holiday. Oh, what fun we had. I was in my element, choosing clothes for her to try on and watching her face and seeing the results on how fabulous she looked. It didn’t feel like working. She bought herself some clothes for her holiday and is enjoying the comments she is receiving from friends about her new purchases.
I have a passion for making ladies look and feel fantastic about themselves and helping them to make huge changes in their lives. By looking and feeling fantastic it gives you the confidence to be who you want to be and for some people, that is huge.
Making this huge change in my working life has been challenging, but looking back, it reminds me just how far I have come. If someone had said to me a few years back, that I would be able to stand in front of a hundered plus ladies and give a talk I would never have beleived them.
I am so pleased that I took that leap of faith, I thoroughly enjoy what I do and I think that it shows. I plan to continue learning and adding to my skills. I have a passion for colour and am now learning about their healing properties which is really exciting. I am doing a job that I love – How about you?
