How to wear your favourite summer pieces in the autumn

We have just returned from a lovely holiday in Spain, staying with some particularly good friends in their apartment. Spending every day on the beach enjoying wearing my favourite summer clothes. The weather we returned to is quite different from last week and now we have wind and rain and temperatures much lower. Not that it matters too much as we now must self-isolate for two weeks. Is it time to put away your summer clothes?  I think I will no longer need my beach clothes, but I still do intend to wear some of my dresses. Here is how to wear your favourite summer pieces in the autumn.

Leather Biker Jacket

I love my summer dresses, they are easy to wear, one item and they are comfortable. Dresses come in all shapes and sizes and you can find a style to suit your body shape. Here in this picture you can see a lovely summer dress is worn with your staple leather jacket over the top. Recently, I bought a navy leather jacket from Sosandar and will be wearing mine in a similar way. This retails at £249 and they have several styles and colours to choose from. She is wearing this dress with high sandals, but you could wear some boots when it gets colder and even add some opaque tights.

Coatigan

Leather jacket not your thing? You can choose any warmer jacket that compliments your dress. If this look is not for you, try one of the many coatigans that are around. These are a cross between a long line cardigan and a coat. They are light weight and just add an extra layer. This one here is from Next and retails at £38.00. It comes is a variety of colours, this one is Blush but is also available in Charcoal, Grey, Mint, and Ochre.  Wear them open like an edge to edge cardigan and the long line will draw the eye down.

Layering your clothes

It is all about layering up your clothes and this is a way of dressing that works for me. I am always a cold person but still get the hot flushes from time to time.  My husband laughs at me as I always say shall I take a cardigan? I do not go anywhere without a jacket/cardigan of some sort. I like to have the option to be able to add or remove.

You don’t only have to layer on top you could put a lightweight jumper or long -sleeved t/shirt underneath a dress. There are always those thin polo neck jumpers around which add another layer.

Pinafore dress – wear it with a jumper or blouse underneath, I know that there were a lot of denim ones around this summer. You could add a pair of opaque tights and boots.

Button through dress – These make a good jacket/coat when they are worn over something. you could wear it over your favourite jumper and jeans/trousers.

Long pleated skirts – Now these are extremely easy to wear in the cooler weather just add a jumper instead of a t/shirt or blouse. Also try boots and warm tights and if it cold enough also add a jacket.

Just think about layering and have a play and come up with some new ways to wear your dresses before you put them away for next spring.

It pays to have good quality core items in your wardrobe that you wear a lot of the time and in many seasons. I like to look at clothes as price per wear, this enables me to sometimes spend more on one item, that I know I will wear a lot. This way I feel I am getting my money’s worth.  We all have staple items in our wardrobes that come out season after season.  Think how you can wear them differently.

I hope I have given you some ideas on how to keep wearing some of your summer clothes. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
