My top tips on how to embrace the tartan trend this season

All over the high street we are seeing tartan. Is this something that you would wear? or do you think you are too old to follow fashion? In my book you are never too old to follow fashion, but it is all about how you do. Here are my top tips on how to embrace the tartan trend this season.

When I think of tartan I think of a red check, but this trend comes in all colours, shapes and sizes and you can go full on tartan or you can just wear a hint of it. Look at these trousers from Next. These are black/red tapered trousers retailing at £35.00 and they have teamed them with this lovely funnel neck jumper in ochre which retails at £25.00 This is a more muted check but still offers come colour.

If you love red you will love this Red Tartan Oxford Shirt also from Next. In fact they have the best range of tartan that I have found. It retails at £22.00 and comes in a variety of coloured checks. Unfortunately, this shirt is not available to mid-October but worth waiting for. You could wear this over a camisole or a skinny rib jumper when it gets cold and even leave it undone and wear like a jacket.

What about a Tartan Print Coat?  I love this one I found in Red Herring at Debenham’s retailing at £69.00. This will brighten up any dull day but if this is too much you can embrace the trend in your accessories. Take this messenger bag from Next at £20.00. Think of how many outfits this will go with. A very versatile purchase.

There are shoes, trainers and boots in tartan which look great with jeans. Tartan is just a check and comes in many colours. If you don’t want the full-on bright colours there are many more muted colours to choose from.

Have some fun with it and be as bold as you dare.
