How to work the sales!

How to work the sales!

The summer sales seem to start earlier and earlier each year.  This year it was the  beginning of June when most of us have not even had our summer holidays. Retailers use this time to clear their stock before introducing more summer lines.  So, how do we work the sales to our advantage and not end up with a wardrobe of clothes that we don’t wear?  This is my take on how to work the sales!

Some sales are very genuine with items that are reduced as stock they have not sold.  They could be odd sizes, end of lines and have genuine reductions.  Others are items that for whatever reason have not sold. I was in a shop only yesterday and there was a full rack of identical skirts in every size. There was also a dress which was white yellow and green, which I guess was not a popular colour which they had in most sizes.  When this happens I am always suspicious, why have they not sold?  It could be the cut, the fabric, the colours,  but if it works for you that’s all that matters.  Make sure you try on before you buy if you are unable to return it. When an item has been reduced many times, there is a no return policy.

There is no point buying something just because it’s cheap!  Ask yourself,  “would I have bought it at full price?”

How to work the sales!

We all love a bargain but it’s not a bargain if it sits in your wardrobe with the tags on and never worn.  Ask yourself, would I buy it at the full price if I could afford it?  Only buy an item after asking yourself these questions.

  • Do I need it?
  • Can I afford it?
  • Do I love it?
  • Does the colour work with my skin tone?
  • Is the style good for my figure?
  • Does it make me look and feel fantastic?

Often, when you buy in sales, you can’t return for a full refund but only a credit note. The return period is often a lot shorter, (two weeks). It is important to try the item on before purchasing to make sure it is something that it will be an asset to your wardrobe.  Always check the garments for faults, particulary if they have attached a sale label as this can often leave a hole.  When you get home if you have second thoughts, or find that you have nothing to go with it and you are able to return it.  DO as you will never wear it.
