How to wear your summer clothes in the cooler weather

So, the weather has been cooler or late, do we go into our autumn wardrobe now?  Not yet in my book. The summers are always too short, so I am not looking to come out of my lovely summer clothes yet. I am going to share with you how to wear your summer clothes in the cooler weather.

I love this Pinafore Button Dress from Next. It comes in Grey or Khaki and has two pockets on the front and retails at £36.00. It looks great on its own in the summer, but as the temperature drops you can put a t/shirt underneath. As the autumn winter comes you can add a long- sleeved light weight top and in the winter a roll neck. What also would look nice are thick tights and pumps or ankle boots, of if you prefer knee high boots. As this is a neutral colour whatever I wore underneath would be in one of my signature colours. I would also put colour in my accessories. If you like wearing leggings you could put that underneath too.

Lightweight jackets come into their own in the Spring and Autumn and you can never have too many in your wardrobe. The denim jacket is a firm favourite and can be worn at any age. Mine I have had in the cupboard for years and it comes out each season.

Another favourite is the faux suede biker jacket like this one from Marks & SpencerI have one in a copper colour and they look great with jeans but also fabulous with dresses and skirts. The good thing about them is that they are lightweight being faux suede and mine can go in the washing machine. This one I have featured here comes in this lovely caramel colour or a soft blue and it retails at £45.00 If biker jackets are not your style there are a lot of this faux suede around in the form of a duster coat. I have seen them in a waterfall design and full- length versions. I am a fan of these as they look smarter than a cardigan.

If you have a button through long sleeved dress in your summer wardrobe you can wear that another way. This I featured in a previous blog.  I was suggesting how to wear pieces in a different way. This dress you can see looks lovely as it is, but you could wear it undone, over a pair of white jeans in this case with a camisole underneath. If was colder you could wear a polo neck jumper. Team with either boots of pumps.

I like to look at clothes as price per wear, this enables me to sometimes spend more on an item, that I know I will wear a lot, as I am getting my money’s worth.  We all have staple items in our wardrobes that come out season after season and it about thinking how you can wear them differently.

This week’s challenge

Look through your wardrobe at your summer clothes and find a way to still wear them in the cooler months. I would be really interested to see how you get on so do message me with your ideas.
