I often hear clients say I have loads of clothes but nothing to wear. Does that resonate with you? Very often we perhaps buy a top that we like, without any thought as to whether we have anything to wear with it. Once you have had your colours done that does not usually happen as if you buy the right colours you will always have something to wear with them. I am going to advise you how to make the most of the clothes youalready have. This will make more outfits from the clothes you already own.
How to make the most of the clothes you already have.
If you read last week’s blog about decluttering, you will be aware of what you do have in your wardrobe already. You will be able to identify if there are any gaps and if you need to replace any of the core wardrobe staples. What I am going to share with you is to perhaps to try and think outside the box and style some of what you already have in a different way.
Several ways to wear a button through dress
I have a lovely button through dress in a conquer colour with a snake print on the top. This dress comes with a belt in the material of the dress. I also wear it with a black belt and long black boots. It also looks nice with a pair of black sandals and bare legs in the summer. You can wear a camisole underneath and leave some of the buttons undone at the top. You can also leave some of the bottom buttons undone in the summer and show off your legs.

Another way to wear this dress is over a pair of black skinny jeans, tucked into boots with a polo neck jumper. Leave the dress open like a jacket and tie the belt up at the back. I am a fan of thick black tights in the winter with short boots and a short black skirt. If leggings are your thing, they would look great too. In the summer you can team it with white jeans and sandals to change the look. Can you see what I am trying to say here? Get more than one look, out of each item.
Several ways to wear your jeans
Jeans are a perfect example. You can style them up or down very easily which is why it is worth in investing in a good pair. If you think price per wear it makes them a very good investment. There are numerous ways to wear your favourite pair, dress them up with a nice blouse or jumper. Wear them with your favourite t/shirt and put a blazer over the top. Skinny jeans look great tucked into boots. Boot cut or flared look great wore over a boot of pair or heeled shoes/sandals. You can dress them down with your favourite sweatshirt and trainers for a more casual look.
Use accessories to change the look of an outfit.
I am a great believer in this. Add a scarf to a plain dress can make a huge difference to the overall look. There is so much choice now when you look at costume jewellery and now is the time to buy. I picked up a statement necklace this week in Laura Ashley which had been reduced from £18.00 to just £3.00 I wore it with a blue jumper that I have had for several years and it looked stunning and brightened up my jumper.
Shoes and Hand bags
They don’t have to match by the way!! These are great accessories and a shoe in a bright colour with a plain dress will make all the difference. You can also embrace a colour trend in your hand bag even if the colour is not good for you to wear next to your face. For example, mustard is everywhere but if you have a cool skin tone it is not a colour for you, but you could use a mustard coloured bag.
I will set you a challenge
I will set you a challenge, take one of your favourite items in your wardrobe and instead of styling with the usual top or bottom look through your wardrobe and try to style it in a different way. Use some of the ideas above to change the look of your favourite piece. I would be really interested to hear how you get on. Please message me with your ideas.

We love to wear clothes that make us look and feel fantastic so let’s wear them more often and not save them for a special occasion. Every day could be a special occasion.

Great idea, especially for those of us who have lost weight and most items in our wardrobes don’t fit any more!
Caroline I know a lovely lady that can take in clothes that no longer fit you and she is very reasonable. I took some clothes to her for my mum who had gone from a size 16 to a 12 in a trouser and she took in the back seam and you would never know. Let me know if you would like her details
