How to Take Care of your Clothes

Here are some tips to on How to take care of your clothes to prolong their life for a longer lasting wardrobe. Choose Clothes Made of Quality Fabrics It all starts with the purchasing of your clothes and it is essential to choose good quality fabrics that won’t break, in a few wears. It is worth investing in the basics that may be a little more expensive because you will be able to keep them for longer.  I always, try to think of clothes as cost per wear, so take  pair of black trousers that you wear and wear against a patterned top that you only wear occasionally.  That way you can afford to spend more on the black trousers and look after them and they will last a long time.  I think if you invest in the basics and then you can build your wardrobe around those.  You can add some cheaper t shirts which are on trend knowing that they have a shelf like which you are happy to replace next year knowing that you did not spend too much on them. Store Them Correctly Folded Jumpers & Tops Storing your clothes is so important if you want them to retain their original shape.   Don’t hang your jumpers and casual tops as hanging can change the shape of the garment.  I would suggest that you fold and place in a stack in the various colours in a draw or on a shelf. Trousers I always hang from the waist to avoid that line you get…

How to add colour to your outfits

How to add colour to your outfits How do you turn a boring dress into something chic?  It is not as difficult as you think? by making some small tweaks and adding some accessories your outfit can become something very individual and it is away to express your personality. Adding a pop of colour can make all the difference and really compliment an outfit.  Just bear in mind that where you put the colour is where people will be drawn to look.  So if you feel that you have a larger bottom half put the colour on your top half and stick to darker colours on the bottom. Let me show you how to add colour to your outfits. Take that little black dress, now we all have one of those in our wardrobes.  Would you team up that with a pair of black shoes and black hand bag?  Well perhaps you would if you had a job in the City but for me that would be to conformist and boring.  Certainly I would have red shoes and bag but it does not have to be red it could be any colour.  Perhaps the dress could do with a nice coloured belt matching the shoes, or statement neckless as their are a lot of those around at the moment.  Depending on the occasion and time of year a nice bright scarf would look nice, alternatively you could add a scarf to your hand bag which looks very chic. Take a…

How To Wear Red

Is Red A Colour I can Wear? I love the colour red and in fact I am known for it.  It makes me feel nice, as I know it suits me, and I look good in it,  that I tend to wear it a lot.  It is also an energy giving colour and being a busy lady helps me get through the day. So Can Everyone Wear Red? Most people can wear most colours but it is the undertone and intensity of colour that makes the difference.  Firstly, are you a warm or cool skinned person?   A warm red will have a yellow undertone and therefore you should go for a tomato red but a cool toned skin should look for a blue undertone and look at a Raspberry red.  Both colours are red but very different and if you place both colours against your skin independently you will see the difference. Once you have decided which tone of red you should wear, how do you put your outfits together and what colours work best with RED!!! Being a lover of red I do have a lot of red in my wardrobe and surprising enough red goes with so many colours.  You can wear red with neutrals, ivory, biscuit, navy, grey and charcoal.  You don’t have to wear a bright full on red dress.  Try a plain dress in any of those colours and  accessorise it,  it can bring the dress alive. Perhaps a red statement neckless or scarf, red belt, red handbag and red…

De-cluttering is an emotional time as clothes are filled with memories, and are personal to you.  We all hold onto items in case they come back in fashion or just in case we may need to wear that little black dress. I would suggest that you start with your wardrobe first followed by your chest of drawers and move onto footwear,  you may get the bug and want to work through your house. So here are my top tips on how to de-clutter your wardrobe When did you last wear it? For every item ask yourself, when did I last wear it? If you  have not worn it for a while there must be a reason, Do I love it?  Does it fit me? If not can it be altered? Is it in one of my best colours?.  Next step to try it on, how does it look, do I feel good in it? We are aiming to end up with a wardrobe of clothes that we not only look good in but make us feel good too.  Some of you may like to have a friend with them, someone who knows you and you feel comfortable to give you an honest opinion. Be Honest Now you have to be honest with yourself, if it does not fit anymore am I likely to be able to slim down enough to be able to wear it again.  Try not…

Nothing to wear and no money to buy anything new?

I have nothing to wear Does that sound familiar?  I have heard this so many times, I have a wardrobe full of clothes but nothing to wear.  Or my husband says to me do you really need another handbag? or another one do you really need another scarf you have a draw full of them.  YES YES YES !!  I scream a girl can never have too many handbags or scarves for that matter. So what is a girl to do if she has nothing to wear and no money to buy anything new? Shop in your own wardrobe Yes I really do mean just that, we all know that the average women wears 20% of her wardrobe 80% of the time so what about the rest of it?  We are hearing all the time about de-cluttering but wouldn’t it be so much easier if we had less to choose from each morning when we opened the wardrobe door in despair wondering what to wear. So my challenge to you is to shop your own wardrobe and find those hidden gems that you had forgotten you had.  This often happens to me when I change my wardrobe round with the seasons and get out all last years summer clothes as spring arrives.  So, pretend that you are in a shop and start looking to put an outfit together.  You will find those hidden gems as you must have liked them enough to buy them in the first place and since you bought that…

Choose the right swimwear to suit your body shape

Are your ready to bare all in your swimsuit this year? Its all about choosing the right swimwear to suit your body shape.  That’s all well and good but what would suit my body shape I hear you say?  I have a few ideas here you might like to bear in mind when choosing one this year. Tummy Technology Figure controlling swimsuit How do I disguise my tummy? Yes this is a common problem for lots of ladies.  Well help is at hand as lots of the major retailers realise that it is a common problem.  I would suggest that you try one of the tummy control technology swim suits as they will do the same as the hold in pants that you can buy.  You will need to try on for size and may need to go up a size to get a comfortable fit.  Look at the designs,  as many do have the coloured insert in the front perhaps stripes and a plain colour at the sides and this does give a good illusion which is very flattering. Create a Waist Want to add some curves in all the right places try a swimsuit with a waistband in the form of a band of colour on the waist.  Sometimes this is just a band of co-ordinating colour or it could be a block colour cutting your body in half but it will give the illusion of a waist. Full Busted Lady You do need to go with something…

How To Dress For The British Summer

How To Dress For The British Summer Did we have summer and I blinked and missed it?  How do you dress for the weather we are having  at the moment and the good old British Summer!! If you are like me,  you have gone out and bought some new summer clothes (mainly for your holiday) but are itching to wear them but the weather has not been warm enough. So How Do You Dress for the British summer? One word answer to this is layers!!  Yes just layer your clothes so you can take off as the weather gets warmer and layer up when the temperature cools down.  This is so easy to do, the new sleeveless  orange & black striped shirt dress that I recently bought I have teamed up with a cotton long sleeved orange cardigan.  If it needs to be smarter I also have a linen orange jacket.  If you feel the cold you could also add a camisole or t shirt underneath.  I am still happy to go bare legs but you could add a pair of tights. Camisoles are a great asset in your summer wardrobe and can add a splash of colour to any outfit. They are great to wear under a dress that has a low neck, under a blouse or shirt particularly if the top is in a  see through material. Cardigans I have them in several colours round or v neck button through. I wear these with a  camisole underneath, or on their…

How To Dress Your Body Shape

My Tips on  – How to Dress your Body Shape How to dress your body shape We all have part of our bodies that we want to hide but we also have parts that we should celebrate as well.  It is not about wearing something shapeless that covers all, but drawing attention by wearing colour where you want to direct the eye and wearing the darker colours on the larger areas you wish to minimise. Don’t be hung up by the size label I have clothes in my wardrobe in sizes 10, 12, & 14 and it is only a number after all.  If you need to go up a size go up a size.  If something is too tight  (or too short) it won’t look flattering, in fact it will make you look bigger than you are .  Nobody can see the size label so no-one will know what size it is so don’t get hung up on it. Wear The Right Underwear. This is so important and can make a huge difference to the overall look.  I would recommend having a bra fitting and investing in some good pieces.  Dark undies for under your dark clothes and nude under white and light colours. We all have those Bridget Jones Knickers in our wardrobes for those special outfits so we can avoid the VPL (visual panty line) and a word of advise is to buy the next size up to avoid the muffin top coming over the top.  The same goes for knickers and swimwear…
