What colour are you choosing to wear whilst at home self-isolating? If you are working from home, it is important not to remain in your PJ’s and put on some work clothes. They are telling us that we need some structure in our day, get some daily exercise, and find some time to relax and reflect. It is strange times for us all and I guess we will all find our own way through this.

As any of you know I have a passion for colour and use colour in many ways in my daily life. When I get up in the morning, I open my wardrobe doors and think which colour do I need to wear today? Yes, that might feel strange to some of you, but colour can play a huge part in how you feel.

Why do you think that hospitals are always painted that pale green or pale blue? It’s to keep the patients calm before they go for their appointment. You here on the TV that guests wait around in the green room before they go on set. That is because green is a calming colour.

After I started working with colour, I wanted to know more about why if I wore all grey, I felt all grey. I learnt that all colours have an energy, some will give you energy, some are calming, and some will deplete your energy.

  • Red is a vibrant colour that can give you energy. Wear red when you want to feel strong, passionate, motivated and grounded.
  • Blue is calming, the colour of logic, the sky and the ocean. Wear blue when you want to feel calm and want to communicate.
  • Green we think of nature, we think of balance and harmony. Wear green when you want to be compassionate, generous, and harmonious
  • Pink is feminine and gives the message you are gentle, charming and affectionate. Wear pink when you need patience, and compassion.
  • Yellow is energising and uplifting and is associated with mental agility. Wear yellow when you want to be confident, fearless, and inspirational. Don’t wear when you are nervous as it will give you the jitters.
  • Purple is a spiritual colour from the very brightest to the lightest lavender. Wear purple/indigo when you want to feel worthy, confident, or for business.
  • Brown solid and reliable, an earthy colour and one of nature. Wear brown when you want to look earthy and committed.
  • Orange is a joyful colour and a mixture of red and yellow and has qualities of both. Wear orange when you want to feel brave, spontaneous, outgoing and creative.

As you can see, I have omitted black and white from my list of colours, why did I do that? I don’t really consider either to be a colour.

  • Black is a negative colour, it absorbs the heat, so wearing it when the weather is hot is not a good idea. Being a negative colour, it will deplete your energy. Wear black when you want to appear serious.
  • White is at the other end of the colour spectrum and is the opposite to black and will reflect the heat which is why it is worn in the summer. Wear white in the summer, it is a great base colour to wear with your power colours.

I think when you are at home and not going any-where it is too easy to pop on a pair to jeans or your favourite track bottoms but perhaps you can put some colour into what you are wearing on top.
