I do believe, that you that you need to feel comfortable, in what you are wearing.  So many ladies starting out in business feel that they should wear a suit, particularly when attending a networking event for example. This is only a good idea if you feel comfortable.  In the Corporate world now, not everyone wears suits so it may not be the best idea for you. So, to be taken seriously do you need to wear a suit? No, I don’t think so, but you do need to wear clothes that not only suit you, but are in the correct colours for your skin tone. It is also essential to have that polished look and by that, I mean no ladders in your tights, chipped nail varnish, smudged makeup and messy hair.

I often get asked should I wear one of my favourite outfits?  Yes, that is a good question because if it is your favourite outfit I guess people are often commenting on it.  If you are wearing something that you know suits you and you look good wearing, that will give you confidence.  With confidence, you will be able to hold your head high knowing that you look your best.  Then, you will be able to sell yourself and your business. Think of an outfit that when you last wore it, you got lots of compliments, that is normally a good place to start from.

When you open your wardrobe in the morning what do you see? How do you decide what to wear each day? Do you take something out of the wardrobe try it on and take if off again because it just does not feel, right?  I think we have all been there. If that’s the case choose something else otherwise you will feel uncomfortable all day.

It takes 30 seconds to make that first impression, so make it a good one. People will make an opinion of you by what you are wearing, before you open your mouth to speak.  Use this opportunity to express your personality when you put your outfits together.  Choose colours that make you feel good and a style you know compliments your body shape.

Give some thought when putting your outfits together, hang your tops in the wardrobe with the relative necklace or scarf, so you remember to wear them. Remember that your shoes and handbags don’t have to match but you can choose coloured ones to accessorise your outfits.

Colour and style is so much more than you wear!!

I have a nice story I heard from a lady who visited my stand at an event.  She told me that she had her colours done some years before and she said that it changed her life. She told me that she had always been overlooked for promotion in her present company and she didn’t know why as she was more than qualified for the jobs. After she started wearing colour everything changed. She wore colour with her black suits and she started to get noticed and got promoted time and time again.  She now holds a senior role in her corporate company and puts it down to wearing colour which got her noticed.
