My tips on choosing the correct swimwear for your body shape

It’s that time of year when we are planning our summer holidays, we take out last year’s swimwear out of the draw and think it is time to update. Sound familiar? I must admit that this is not the type of shopping I enjoy. Here are my tips on choosing the correct swimwear for your body shape.

My tips on choosing the correct swimwear for your body shape

I have a long body which does not suit a full costume, but this year I did fancy one instead of the usual trusty bikini. I found this one in Marks & Spencer and it comes in this lovely cream and pink tones. It is available in along length in the body. Its fits well with the bust in the right place and the straps can be removed for sunbathing. It also has the secret slimming panel over the tummy area. which is ruched and very flattering. It retails at £29.50. So, I think this is a keeper.

When to wear a tankini?

The other alternative of course would be a tankini. Personally, I don’t find them very comfortable as they tend to ride up over my tummy but if you are not big in that area it might work for you. This design also comes in a bikini, tankini and sarong.

How do I disguise my tummy?

This is something many ladies are worried about but, help is at hand. The costume above has the secret slimming and you will find that is in most costumes today. Another way to disguise your tummy would be to try a pant that goes to the waist which they too will have the slimming technology in the front. These can be very flattering, and you can choose the style of top to suit you.

How to create a waist?

One great way to add some curves in the right places try a waistband in the form of a band of colour around the waist. This gives the illusion of a waist.  Some also have a panel of colour down the sides to also give the same flattering effect.

Full busted lady.

It is important go for something that will give you support and so you should by the bra/cup size and not the ladies dress size.  If you have the correct support, you can go for a style that works for you. Underwired or not but if you are a well- endowed lady I would stay away from a padded bra. Halter neck styles will even out your body while making most of your assets.

Small busted ladies.

I would choose a bra top with preformed cups and or some padding to give you some shape. However, I am not a lover of the highly padded ones.  They hold the water after you have been swimming and can feel quite uncomfortable when full of water. Choose one with some detailing on the bust, a frill or a twisted top.

Pear shaped ladies

If you are smaller on the top and have heavier hips and thighs, you are a pair shape. Look out for styles with lots of colour and detail on the top to detract from the lower half. High cut bottoms will also leave your legs looking longer. High waited bikinis cover just enough to leave you feeling confident by the pool.

When shopping for your swimwear you also need to consider the colour/pattern that you choose. If you know which colours work well for you great, if not, take a picture of yourself wearing the costume. This way it is easier to see if the colour works for you. If you are going for a pattern bear in mind the larger the figure the larger the print should be. If you are a petite lady, you don’t want to swamp your figure with a large pattern.
