Now, this is the question are you a high street girl or do you prefer designer labels? Which is best I here you ask? Well, I suspect that depends on your budget.

The high street retailers now are so quick to copy clothes from the catwalk. New fashion trends are on the high street in a very short time following the fashion shows. But, are the designer clothes any better? I guess that is a leading question and would depend on the item in question. Personally, I feel that sometimes you are really paying for the name and can buy something very similar of the same quality elsewhere without a designer tag.

Quantity or Quality?

We all have a budget to work too and my advice to anyone is to buy the best you can afford. This is particularly for the key staples in your wardrobe. If you are buying say a pair of trousers that you know are going to get some wear it is worth choosing a good quality pair. The way that I justify this is to calculate price per wear. This goes for shoes, coats, and any item that is going to get a lot of wear. Also, if the item is a classic piece that you know will be in your wardrobe for many years, it is worth investing in.

You don’t always have to pay full price for designer clothes. Online there are many sites now offering designer pieces at discounted prices. Just be aware that they may be last season’s collections but if they are in a style that you know works for you and in one of your key colours what does it matter. Designer dress agencies, eBay and outlet stores are often places to find some bargains. Charity shops are often a good place to look for some designer labels, but it does depend on the area you are looking.

High Street Fashion

If you are a follower of fashion, then you do not need to spend lots of money on high quality clothes. The fashion trends change so quickly they will be out of fashion as quickly as they came in. This is where some of the cheaper brands do very well. They copy the styles from the catwalk, and in the shops almost immediately. These items are made abroad where the labour is cheaper and therefore this is reflected in the price. There is nothing to stop you wearing these items with your classic pieces to update and refresh your wardrobe. You know that the chances are they may not stand the test of time and wash and wear well. As you didn’t pay too much for them it is OK to throw away at the end of the season.

So, for me it must be to buy the best you can afford for key items that you want to keep in your wardrobe. You can add some fashion items to freshen up your look. If you only want to wear designer I would suggest that you buy less items and wear them more regularly. Unless of course you have an unlimited budget.
