Buying a pair of jeans is no longer easy, as there is so much choice out there. So where do you start? How to you find the correct style for your body shape? Here are my tips for choosing the right jeans for your body shape.
Tips for choosing the right jeans for your body shape
Jeans now are worn for so many occasions. It may be that you will have several pairs in your wardrobe in different styles to be worn for different occasions. No longer do you only have to wear blue denim jeans as they also come in some lovely colours too. So, this is just going to be a guide to show you what style would most flatter your shape.
Skinny Jeans
These are the most popular now and can be worn by most body shapes if they are styled correctly. They can be worn with ballet pumps, high sandals and tucked into boots. This is what makes them so versatile. If you are tall and slim you can get away with wearing anything with them. You can tuck in a shirt, wear with a t/shirt or top.
If you carry your weight around the middle then layering is the key. Wear with a shirt under a long line jumper, this will make you upper half look longer. Tunics or a long cardigan look good too. To straighten out curvier hips, team with a hip skimming blazer.
If you are conscious of your tummy, choose a high waist jean with some built in support to smooth out your troublesome area. Choose a stretchy denim for added comfort.
Kick Flare Jeans
These are a favourite of mine and not only are they seriously chic but they are great for adding shape particularly if you are tall and slim like myself. If you go for a pair that skim the floor and hang over your shoes they can make your legs look longer. If you choose a pair that kick out from the knee they will create an hourglass silhouette particularly if you are big busted.
Boot Cut Jeans
You really cannot go wrong with boot cut jeans, a wardrobe staple in my mind. If you get the fit right they will compliment any figure. It is a good idea to choose a thicker denim as it is more likely to hold its shape. Boot cut are now available in a slim boot cut which is also good.
Boyfriend Jeans
I always thought of this style to be more suitable for the younger girls but we are now seeing slimmer lines. These jeans normally come with larger belt loops, which ideal if you are heavier around the middle as you can add a large belt to create a waist. This shape of jeans is for a more casual look and best teamed with a nice t/shirt. Choose a darker denim to make your legs look thinner.
Coloured & Patterned Jeans
These are a good alternative to the traditional denim. I own several different colours and feel they are a smarter look. Style a black pair with a jacket and you get a smart casual look that can take you anywhere.

Buying a good pair of jeans is a good investment. If you are looking to purchase a designer pair, I am reliably informed that Selfridges has the best selection as it has it’s own Denim Studio.
If you want your jeans to slim you? Choose a pair with built in support, if you are conscious of your tummy, choose either mid-rise of high-rise. Make sure the waistband sits naturally on your waist with no gaping. Always go for a pair with some stretch. If they do up easily go down a size because they will give as you start wearing them.

Good advice Sandra. I’m always conscious of being a bit heavy in the thighs so many styles just aren’t big enough.
Would be good to be able to go to a shop with a jeans specialist as the sizes can be very confusing too.
I had never noticed that, i always thought of you as small and petite and a lady who knows how to dress herself in both colour and style.
