Step into spring and re-visit your summer wardrobe

What a lovely weekend we all enjoyed last week. This immediately made me look for some summer clothes and I ended up turning my wardrobe around from winter to summer. This is a great time to have a sort through what you have and what you are no longer going to wear. Here are my tips on how to step into spring and re-visit your summer wardrobe.

As you start to pack away your winter pieces just ask yourself the following questions.

  • Have I worn it this season?
  • Does it still fit me?
  • Do I still love it and love wearing it?
  • Is it the right colour and style for me?

If you answer NO to any of these perhaps you need to decide whether to keep it or not. The same goes for the summer pieces you are going to hang in your wardrobe. There is no point holding onto items that you are not going to wear. It clogs up the wardrobe and makes choosing what to wear more difficult.

I find that t/shirts often need replacing as they don’t always stand the test of time and they are inexpensive to replace. There really is no point holding onto clothes in case you slim down to fit into them. If you still want to do that I would suggest that you put these items away in a suitcase out of your main wardrobe. If you do manage to slim down, you can always get them out then. This will make room in your wardrobe for what you are wearing.

Anything you no longer need can go into one of these piles.

  • Pre-Loved sales (E bay, dress agencies or similar)
  • Re-cycling or swapping events
  • Charity
  • Tailor if they need altering
  • Bin

Once you have removed anything that you are not going to keep you will see what you have left and what you need to replace. If you have managed to sell any items, you can use that money towards something you will wear.  Take one of your favourite items and see what you already have that will go with it. Any items that you have nothing to wear with are the items you may need to buy something to go with them if you decide to keep them. Doing this sometimes you find new ways of styling your clothes.

If you know which colours are best for you and what style suits you, this will be very easy to do.  If not, please do get in touch, you can browse my website for the services that I offer for colour and style.

Now comes the best bit as it is the time to fill in the gaps in your wardrobe. If you have thrown out your white jeans as they were past their sell by date perhaps you might like to replace them. Write a list of the basics that you need and shop for them first. These are the more investment pieces and then you add the other pieces. When looking for new clothes don’t always go to where you have always gone and buy what you always buy. Try to have an open mind and look at other pieces, try things on and experiment a little. To change your look, you need to change what you wear. Have you thought about buying pre-loved from a dress agency? You can at least try them on in store and very often pick up a designer brand at a good price. Many of my friends order online now, it’s not what I like to do but for many stores now you can at least return to store rather than have to package up and return by post.
