Why co-ordinating items are an investment in your wardrobe.

I love to buy co-ordinating items as it gives an opportunity to build and make more outfits with fewer items. Here are my tips on why coordinating items are an investment in your wardrobe.

Whilst we are still unable to visit the shops, I have been looking online for some co-ordinating items to show you. I came across two examples from the Emma Willis range at Next. I love these satin wide leg trousers which I think could make a good basic to have in your wardrobe. If you are a warm skin toned lady Khaki is a good colour for you and will work well with other colours you already have in your wardrobe. These trousers could be dressed up with a sandal and dressed down with trainer. Think of what other tops you already have that you could wear with these trousers. It could be another blouse, t/shirt, or vest top.

You could wear a jacket if you wanted to make it more formal. With the trousers being a plain colour, the possibilities are endless. These retail at £38.00 which is a good price point for something that you will get a lot of wear out of. (Think price per wear)

This comes with a beautiful satin blouse (also from Next). This is a loosely fitted shape with mid-length sleeves and a flattering V-neck and retails at £28.00. It looks great worn here with the trousers but think of what else you have in your wardrobe that you could wear the blouse with. White or cream jeans?

I have another example here also from Emma Willis at Next. This is a black and orange gingham skirt make from 100% cotton, styles in a full, midi-length shape for a flattering silhouette and finished with a hidden zip fastening on the side. The side zip and flat front is ideal if you are worried about your tummy. This retails at £45.00 but what else do you have that you could wear with it. Perhaps an orange or black top, t/shirt, or blouse. A vest top?

You can team it with the matching gingham cropped shape top so it looks more like a dress. It has statement puff sleeves and a rounded neckline and retails at £28.00 also at Next.  Or you could wear it with a pair of your favourite jeans.

So the advantages of buy co-ordinating items are

  • You can make more outfits with less clothes.
  • Great for travelling (less clothes in the suitcase).
  • All the items will mix and match.

I am not saying that you must buy either of these outfits but do look at buying in this way as it makes styling your outfits so much easier. When we can go back to the shops it will be easier to find these co-ordinating items as the shops usually style them together. When I worked in Wallis, we used to put outfits together so customers could see how to wear them together, particularly if we had several items in the one print.

Think of a trouser suit, you can wear it together or separately, its the same principal. I hope you found this interesting, if you would like any advice please do get in touch, I would love to hear from you.
