How to utilise colour to re-vamp your wardrobe

Colour is the essense to successful dressing

I suppose this comes as no suprise to many of you bearing in mind I am a Colour & Style Coach but even before I always loved colour.  I have a bright orange wall in my kitchen which I love and my kitchen is the main hub of my home, where we all get together.  If you get up in the morning and the sun is shining with a blue sky how does that make you feel?  For me I start the day with a spring in my step and it certainly changes the way my day progresses.  So if this effects me so much, it matters how I decorate my home and the colours of the clothes that I choose to wear.  How to utilise colour to re-vamp your wardrobe.  Look at the clothes you already have and style them in another way. Colour is the essense to successful dressing.

Nature Never Gets it Wrong

Here are some ideas on how to put different colours together.  Colours that you may not have thought of.  If you think of nature, blue and green should never be seen – (nature never gets it wrong).  Take a look in nature, blue sky, green fields and trees in their many changing colours. So here is your starting point.  Take this picture of the flower market in Amsterdam.  See how all the flowers compliment the green.  Would you think of styling pink with green or lavender with green?   You may not have done, but how nice do they look?  I have just bought a khaki skirt and was thinking of what I could wear with it. Red and cream but how nice do you think pink or coral would look or even turquoise or teal?

Styling different colours together.

You just need to think outside the box and not just style with the usual  black white and navy. So take a look at this khaki skirt teamed with a coral jumper.  Khaki is a great colour to use as a base colour in the summer instead of the usual neutral beige or white as so many colours look lovely with it.  Colour just brings people to life!

I have been looking at colour pallets to give clients ideas how to put  colours together.  If you look at my Pinterest board  you will see many  colours combinations that look fabulous together.   Get some girls together and have a play and try different ideas and see what you can come up with.  Here are a couple of examples I have found on Pinterest.

Look at these two stunning outfits.  I don’t think you would neccessarly put these colours together but how fantastic do they look?  The pink and blue both have a yellow undertone and go perfectly together much the same way the yellow and sea green.

I hope that I have given you some inspiration to try experimenting with colours.  Look for colourful ways to make some new outfits for your Spring/Summer wardrobe.  You may not have to buy anything new. Take a look at what you have in your exisiting wardrobe and find fun new ways to wear what you already have.  Not only will you save money, you will  gain some new outfits in the process.   By wearing  these lovely colours, you will feel better about yourself, have more energy and zest for life.  This will give you confidence knowing that you look and feel fabulous.   You make new outfits you didn’t know you had by teaming different colours together.

Colours in the home

This also goes for colours in the home.  As I said at the beginning I have an orange wall in my kitchen but you wouldn’t want very virbrant colours in the Bedroom.  To unwind you need relaxing colours and not ones with high energy,  so go for soothing neutrals, cool blues, lavenders, pale peaches and muted colours.  By all means add some bright accessories in table lamps and  cushions etc.  So you can use colour to re-vamp your home too.

These are my ideas on how to utilise colour in your wardrobe,  and to make new outfits out of the clothes that you already have.  Also understand that wearing colour in itself will make you feel better, give you more eneregy, rather than deplete it by wearing black.  Just remmember that when you are relaxing in front of the TV in the evening change out of your high energy colours into some relaxing ones to undwind.

I have a passion for colour because of the way it makes you feel!
