How to make more outfits from your existing wardrobe

I think that one thing I have learnt during this lock down period is that probably most ladies have more clothes than they need. This makes choosing an outfit hard as we have so much to choose from. Do you really need to buy anything new? Or do you just like having something new to wear? I am going to share with you how you can make more outfits from your existing wardrobe.

Rule number one never buy anything new unless you have three things in your wardrobe that you can wear with it. You do not want to have to purchase something else to go with it. What you are looking to do here is to build a wardrobe of things that all work with each other. This means you need less clothes but can make more outfits.

I  have recently had a birthday and one of my good friends bought me a voucher for a boutique called  JoJoBlue  in Danbury. Today I visited the store and bought this lovely orange top. The beauty of this top is that you can wear it four ways. You can see in this short video; I have teamed it with a floral skirt. I could also wear it with denim jeans, cut off trousers, white linen trousers, beige cotton skirt, and navy wide leg trousers. As you can see, this is going to be a useful addition to my wardrobe.

Make an investment in yourself and have a Colour Consultation

Another thing you can do is to invest in a Colour Consultation and find our which colours will bring out the best in you. By doing this you will be able to build a wardrobe full on items that will mix and match and all tone with each other. Not only will I show you the difference colour will make, I will also show you how to mix colour combinations so you will be able to wear all 30 colours in your pallet. You will come away with a swatch of colours and a digital one for your phone. I will take photographs throughout the consultation and forward to you a look book as a reminder. Take a look at my website for further details.

Try shopping in your own wardrobe

Making sure that your wardrobe is not too full makes choosing outfits so much easier, as you forget what you do have. I often suggest to my clients to go shopping in their own wardrobe. Sound funny to you? Now, would you buy everything again? This is not only one way to have a declutter, but you will find things that you have forgotten you had. Try to re-style a pair of your favourite trousers and see how many ways you can wear them. You may surprise yourself. How many times do you buy something new, only to go home and find you have something remarkably similar at home?

I think that people are now thinking very differently about clothes and not buying so much fast fashion and looking at buying less but buying something that they will wear more and will last longer. This will help with landfill and will be better for the environment.

Look after your clothes and they will last longer

Do we need to wash our clothes as much as we do? If we have not been in a smoky environment, and if we have not got hot wearing the item does it really need to be washed. Could we air it and wear it again? If your favourite dress is now too big for you, before you throw it away.  Can we alter it to fit, or turn it into something else?  Can we look at customising an item to make it look individual.

Think carefully before you invest in something new and ask yourselves these questions first.

  • Can I afford it
  • Do I need it
  • Do I have something similar already in my wardrobe
  • Have three things currently in my wardrobe I can wear with it
  • Is it in one of my colours?
  • Is it in a style that will flatter my figure?

If you answer NO to any of these questions you need to question yourself the need to buy. What we are looking to do here is to build a workable wardrobe of things you love and love wearing. You want to look and feel fantastic, giving you the confidence to be you.
