Which Colours are best for you?

Finding out which colours are best for you can be life changing. Someone came up to me at one of my events and said to me ” I had my colours done some time ago and for me,  it was definately life changing.  I had been overlooked for promotion at work many times and I didn’t know why, as I knew I was capable and right for these roles.  I had a colour consultation and started to wear colour to work and I started to get noticed and was no longer over looked. Since then I have been promoted several times and now hold a senior role in a Corporate company” So how do you know which colours are best for you. Warm Red                       Cool Red   One of my clients said to me Red is a good colour for me, but she was wearing the wrong red.  She had a warm complection and should have been wearing a yellow based red but in fact she had chosen a blue based dark red which was totally wrong on her.       Colour swatch Colour is the essence of successful dressing It affects how we feel and how people respond to us Getting it right gives us more confidence Colour attracts the eye It’s the very first thing people notice about us and it’s what we are remembered for Colours which match our skin tone enhance our natural looks     …

“How To Look a Million Dollars”

I am going to share with you some ways to make your outfits look expensive in some very easy ways which won’t cost a fortune.  Its really simple to upscale an outfit to make it look a lot more expensive. So here goes “How to look a million dollars” “How to look a million Dollars” Firstly make sure that you have a good fit and if neccessary take to a tailor and get those nips and tuck where they are needed.  I recently bought this simple navy dress in a sal for £9.00 in Asda but it was a size too big.  Bargain I thought so,  I had to take in the bust with a few stitches under the arm and all was good. Add some gold accessories, and I have added a gold statement neckless and cuff bracelet and it brings it alive. Wearing all one colour is a great way to elongate the look but if you are using separates make sure that the two items are the same colour as two black can look very different. Tuck in your shirt tales, I know lots of ladies like to wear these outside to cover up your bum, but try tucking into your skirt or trousers.  Try this also with a baggy jumper and tuck in the hem. Cinch in your waist with a nice belt Keep your handbags nice and clean and shiney, store in your wardrobe in the dust covers to protect them. Invest your money in…

How To Wear Denim

How To Wear Denim Smart I have lots of denim in my wardrobe because it can look very casual or you can dress it up to look quiet formal in a casual way if that makes sense.  So how do you wear denim?  Here are a few ideas you might like to consider. How to wear Denim for work Denim Jeans We all have a pair of jeans in the wardrobe and they can vary from a pale denim which appear to be more casual and look great with a t/shirt or perhaps a dark denim pair which if you want to dress you can do so with a sparkly top for a party.  If perhaps you are out networking or to lunch with a friend how about a nice cotton blouse with a navy blazer and a coloured scarf in the neck or a coloured jacket with a statement neckless.  This you could team up with a red hand bag and red shoes or boots.  I really love this look and normally choose a boot cut or kick flare for this smarter look but would wear skinny jeans tucked into boots or wear with ballet pumps. Sleeveless jackets are another good idea for this time of year as it is not cold enough for a jacket.  I have a tailored navy one which I wear with my jeans and can really add style to an outfit. Coloured Jeans These are all over the high street in many colours, so choose one of…

Find your own Sense of Style

Find Your Own Sense of Style How many times have I heard   “I have lots of clothes in my wardrobe but I never have anything to wear”. This is a common complaint by many women as they buy something random because they like it but don’t think about what they have in their wardrobe to wear with it. So, I am going to give you some ideas on how to find your own sense of style, by using the clothes in your wardrobe but wearing them in a different way. Its all about finding your own unique style which will develop over the years.  So how do you do that?  Well magazines are a good place to start to look and see how outfits are put together, see how the clothes are styled in the shops and on the manikins, but my favourite is to people watch, wherever you are and see how other ladies put outfits together. It can be a good idea to look back at photos of yourself and see if you like a certain look. Fashions do change and so will your own style over the years. Go to your wardrobe and pull out one of your favourite things, it may be a pair of trousers or jeans for argument sake.  Perhaps you would normally team this up with a t shirt, blouse or shirt.  So why not add a textured Gillet when it is not cold enough to wear a coat but you need something.  You…

How to Take Care of your Clothes

Here are some tips to on How to take care of your clothes to prolong their life for a longer lasting wardrobe. Choose Clothes Made of Quality Fabrics It all starts with the purchasing of your clothes and it is essential to choose good quality fabrics that won’t break, in a few wears. It is worth investing in the basics that may be a little more expensive because you will be able to keep them for longer.  I always, try to think of clothes as cost per wear, so take  pair of black trousers that you wear and wear against a patterned top that you only wear occasionally.  That way you can afford to spend more on the black trousers and look after them and they will last a long time.  I think if you invest in the basics and then you can build your wardrobe around those.  You can add some cheaper t shirts which are on trend knowing that they have a shelf like which you are happy to replace next year knowing that you did not spend too much on them. Store Them Correctly Folded Jumpers & Tops Storing your clothes is so important if you want them to retain their original shape.   Don’t hang your jumpers and casual tops as hanging can change the shape of the garment.  I would suggest that you fold and place in a stack in the various colours in a draw or on a shelf. Trousers I always hang from the waist to avoid that line you get…

How to add colour to your outfits

How to add colour to your outfits How do you turn a boring dress into something chic?  It is not as difficult as you think? by making some small tweaks and adding some accessories your outfit can become something very individual and it is away to express your personality. Adding a pop of colour can make all the difference and really compliment an outfit.  Just bear in mind that where you put the colour is where people will be drawn to look.  So if you feel that you have a larger bottom half put the colour on your top half and stick to darker colours on the bottom. Let me show you how to add colour to your outfits. Take that little black dress, now we all have one of those in our wardrobes.  Would you team up that with a pair of black shoes and black hand bag?  Well perhaps you would if you had a job in the City but for me that would be to conformist and boring.  Certainly I would have red shoes and bag but it does not have to be red it could be any colour.  Perhaps the dress could do with a nice coloured belt matching the shoes, or statement neckless as their are a lot of those around at the moment.  Depending on the occasion and time of year a nice bright scarf would look nice, alternatively you could add a scarf to your hand bag which looks very chic. Take a…

How To Wear Red

Is Red A Colour I can Wear? I love the colour red and in fact I am known for it.  It makes me feel nice, as I know it suits me, and I look good in it,  that I tend to wear it a lot.  It is also an energy giving colour and being a busy lady helps me get through the day. So Can Everyone Wear Red? Most people can wear most colours but it is the undertone and intensity of colour that makes the difference.  Firstly, are you a warm or cool skinned person?   A warm red will have a yellow undertone and therefore you should go for a tomato red but a cool toned skin should look for a blue undertone and look at a Raspberry red.  Both colours are red but very different and if you place both colours against your skin independently you will see the difference. Once you have decided which tone of red you should wear, how do you put your outfits together and what colours work best with RED!!! Being a lover of red I do have a lot of red in my wardrobe and surprising enough red goes with so many colours.  You can wear red with neutrals, ivory, biscuit, navy, grey and charcoal.  You don’t have to wear a bright full on red dress.  Try a plain dress in any of those colours and  accessorise it,  it can bring the dress alive. Perhaps a red statement neckless or scarf, red belt, red handbag and red…

How to De-Clutter Your Wardrobe

How to De-Clutter your wardrobe How to build a workable wardrobe that works for you. De-cluttering is an emotional time as clothes are filled with memories, and are personal to you.  We all hold onto items in case they come back in fashion or just in case we may need to wear that little black dress. I would suggest that you start with your wardrobe first followed by your chest of drawers and move onto footwear,  you may get the bug and want to work through your house. So here are my top tips on how to de-clutter your wardrobe When did you last wear it? For every item ask yourself, when did I last wear it? If you  have not worn it for a while there must be a reason, Do I love it?  Does it fit me? If not can it be altered? Is it in one of my best colours?.  Next step to try it on, how does it look, do I feel good in it? We are aiming to end up with a wardrobe of clothes that we not only look good in but make us feel good too.  Some of you may like to have a friend with them, someone who knows you and you feel comfortable to give you an honest opinion. Be Honest Now you have to be honest with yourself, if it does not fit anymore am I likely to be able to slim down enough to be able to wear it again.  Try not…

Nothing to wear and no money to buy anything new?

I have nothing to wear Does that sound familiar?  I have heard this so many times, I have a wardrobe full of clothes but nothing to wear.  Or my husband says to me do you really need another handbag? or another one do you really need another scarf you have a draw full of them.  YES YES YES !!  I scream a girl can never have too many handbags or scarves for that matter. So what is a girl to do if she has nothing to wear and no money to buy anything new? Shop in your own wardrobe Yes I really do mean just that, we all know that the average women wears 20% of her wardrobe 80% of the time so what about the rest of it?  We are hearing all the time about de-cluttering but wouldn’t it be so much easier if we had less to choose from each morning when we opened the wardrobe door in despair wondering what to wear. So my challenge to you is to shop your own wardrobe and find those hidden gems that you had forgotten you had.  This often happens to me when I change my wardrobe round with the seasons and get out all last years summer clothes as spring arrives.  So, pretend that you are in a shop and start looking to put an outfit together.  You will find those hidden gems as you must have liked them enough to buy them in the first place and since you bought that…
